Dwayne Haskins

If I were the Steelers I would sign Haskins. His main problem is maturity. He still has an upside. Heck, Ben was pretty immature when he signed with the Steelers. He actually might be able to help the kid out.
Wentz will be on the market year-end as well. Philly can't afford to keep him if they want to rebuild the rest of the team (`21 positions).

For league minimum maybe.... not sure they want to do the knucklehead thing again.

Don’t know if that would work. First Big Ego must approve or he will pout like when they drafted a QB three years ago. Then Big Ego isn’t the best role model as he gets OCs fired, whines publicly about play calling, and more.

Also not sure about he and Tomlin together. Tomlin is a great motivator and getting guys to overcome setbacks but he is terrible at discipline which Haskens seems to need. Some one needs to hold Haskens’ feet to the fire while motivating him. Belichick may be a better fit for that.

I would tell Big Ego that the position is his as long as he wants to stay. I would then ask him to mentor Haskins. I don't think Haskins is a head case in terms of being a bad apple, I think he just needs to grow up, and dedicate himself more in terms of being a professional. Pittsburgh is now a desirable job for a QB considering all of the young talent they have at WR.

"For league minimum maybe.."

Of course, that's why it would be a nothing to lose situation. Although, some team will probably offer more than the league minimum.

Moving him is also quite expensive. Definitely will be tough to trade him this year.

Haskins stinks and he has a really long throwing motion.

The Steelers won 6 Super Bowls by avoiding doing really dumb shit like signing Haskins
I don’t see how seeing what he has at OTAs and camp is dumb. I’m not saying to sign him to a big long term deal as the heir apparent. I do know this, they need a qb for the future and they don’t have one now.

Youth + never been told "NO" because of supreme athletic gifts + huge infusion of cash + thinking you're invincible = bad decisions. Not at all surprising, TBH.
To me what is truly sad is that this young man had NO ONE in his life that was willing to sit him down and explain the world to him, even just the Readers Digest version. Something like, "you know, Dwayne, you have more God given ability to throw a football than all but maybe 75 or so people ON THE PLANET. You've been given millions of dollars because of that fact ALONE. Work hard at being a quarterback and you'll end up making tens, if not hundreds, of millions of dollars more. You don't have to be a saint in your personal life, just don't do anything publicly that your mother would want to see on the front page of the paper."
Now, if someone DID have that conversation with him and he ended up in his predicament anyway, then that's on him but again, given his young age and the other factors I mentioned above, it is not a huge surprise. Hopefully either a) someone talks with him b) he matures and/or c) he gets his head out of his arse, or some combo of those things happens because he clearly has some talent to play the position.

Agree. Never looked like NFL material but Phil Rivers is still in the league with his terrible side arm motion
Rivers side arming is weird but it’s not as long as Haskins. I haven’t really seen him much in the NFL but at Ohio State he wound up like Bugs Bunny pitching against the Gashouse Gorillas.

Bad news for him if no one wants him. He may not play much if ever in the NFL. I'm a bit surprised. Classic case of a lot of talent which got him to the NFL and a first round pick but then at that level they all have that talent so hard work and mental strength need to kick in to succeed or at least have some sustainability.

I believe the proper quick release can be learned but it is a big project for a guy making millions with the probable outcome being less accurate and less zip. It's also very hard on the shoulder. I remember that long motion he took in 2018 when they beat us. The big play should have been a sack or intercepted but their WR snagged it and eluded everyone in our backfield on the way to TD.

I believe he did have someone on the team sit down and talk to him about that stuff. From what my Skins fan friend told me it was one of their linebackers who came to him after his second or third start and said what opposing defenses were doing to him and Haskins laughed at him and said for him to stick to playing on his side of the ball.

Haskins is a second year QB playing for a WEAK offense. Take away former OSU WR, and that O is less than competitive in the passing game (mostly because of the OL). Ron Rivera is a solid coach who will build a great D and have an OK O led by Haskins next year. Alex Smith should call it a career.
Ah,,, did you watch the game against the Panthers? You can’t blame his turnovers on the offense. He made horrible decisions in that game.

It is apparent from Haskins pro career that he is not a competitor. Despite numerous warnings he continued to act like a flaky teenager.

Interesting comparison between Haskins and Joe Burrow. Haskins took the selfie with a fan at the end of a Washington game. When Burrow was at LSU he lost his cell phone and wasn't going to replace it, saying that he had football to work on. His parents had to buy him the phone because he wasn't going to bother. Unless there is an amazing change in his personality I don't think he even has a future as a backup in NFL. Simply doesn't have the makeup to do the work.

Still amazing to see how low Haskins has gone. In 2017 he took over for an injured Barrett in Michigan game with OSU behind and had a perfect 1.5 quarters in winning the game for OSU.

I have a friend who does alumni volunteering activities at Bullis, which is the high school that Haskins went to. He told me that it was well known that Haskins was an idiot and there were issues with his attitude dating back to high school. Haskins' issues in Washington was that he didn't learn the playbook, he did not take criticism well, and that he demonstrated a bad attitude due to a sense of entitlement.

By the way, Christian Veilleux, our 2021 recruiting class Quarterback, comes from the same high school as Haskins, so hopefully he is A LOT smarter than Haskins.
Bullis is a big time factory of D1 talent. Plenty of success stories. Haskins is just Haskins

I’m also guessing that being in the NFL in basically home town ( if I’m remembering correctly) has been a good thing.

It may have been better that he had been drafted to a team in another city.

Maybe, who knows.

I am quite sure multiple people had that talk with him, numerous times. Probably every coach he ever had.

Pretty sad case. He is out now, will probably get one more shot. Most every coach believes he is the one that can get to Hasken and make a top notch player out of him. Patriots have a decent track record of projects. And they have the courage to quickly cut a guy that does fit.

Worse, when he finally flames out, he may spiral down into some bad shit. Seen with other super star NFL flunkies. Depression, anger, drugs, violence. Hope he has a strong support structure some where as he is going to need it.
