I am puzzled. Why doesn’t Edinboro get better wrestling recruits? They seldom seem to get top recruits, yet they obviously develop top wrestlers in their program. Tim Flynn, a PSU All American wrestler, is now celebrating 20 years coaching at Edinboro and has done a great job. Prior to Flynn, Bruce Baumgartner, an NCAA champion and 2 time Olympic Gold metalist, coached the team. Baumgartner is currently the Athletic Director at Edinboro.

In the last ten years they have done very well:
2015 – 3rd place at NCAA National Championships
2014 – 5th place
2013 – 14th
2012 – 17th
2011 – 23rd
2010 – 16th
2009 – 6th
2008 – 21st
2007 – 9th
2006 – 8th

Does Edinboro offer the full 9.9 scholarships, or are they hampered with fewer scholarships?

Why doesn’t PSU wrestle Edinboro? They are only 3 hours away and are a Pennsylvania school. I like seeing Pennsylvania universities do well in wrestling [all of them - including Pitt]. It is a reflection of the wrestling talent in the state. Has any other school in PA (aside from PSU) done as well as Edinboro in recent years? Lehigh is obviously good, but do they have the track record of Edinboro in the last ten years? Perhaps someone with better knowledge can enlighten me.

Edinboro is not a very good school academically. According to US News: "It is less selective, with an acceptance rate of 99 percent." You mentioned PSU, Pitt, and Lehigh. All are in another stratosphere compared to Edinboro. If you care about education and being prepared for life after wrestling, Edinboro is probably not your best choice.

I don't think Edinboro has the full 9.9 -- have heard it's closer to 7.0 rides.

Another factor is that all of the PSAC schools, Edinboro included, are Division 2 in all sports except wrestling. Wrestling could have the best facilities on campus (which probably isn't true, because lower division ADs still have football and basketball requirements) and still fall behind in the arms race -- gotta find another way.

To the point above about academics: that plus Edinboro being a smaller enrollment school (i.e., fewer alumni) also means Edinboro likely has fewer big hitter alumni donors than the major D1 programs.

Also, Edinboro is kinda remote to the rest of the state. Not far (2 hrs) from the D7 gold mine, but there's a ton of competition for those kids. The local talent base (D10 and D9) is not nearly as strong. UVa and VT are closer to many parts of the state.
