ESPN story on Mike Gesicki

How volleyball turned Mike Gesicki into Penn State's leap-frogging matchup nightmare

I have noticed that what counts as "covered" in most cases, does not count as covered with MG. You can be right beside him, running side by side, and there is a spot above his head where only his hands can go.

It is likely the OSU "wrinkle" we will see will involve targeting him more. He is second only to Barkley in his ability to do things and go places other fb players cannot go.

They'll hold and bump him, lets see if it gets called, or called as much as it should?

Anyone remember a few years ago when he had a bad case of the drops? Man has he turned it around. Guy has caught literally everything thrown at him for two years.

Back then, it was quite a leap to think he'd be a star.

Good article and what a great weapon Gesicki has become.

Let's be honest, though -- didn't we cuss him just 2 seasons ago when he dropped nearly everything that came his way? A good reminder of how some guys, even the really good ones, develop over time and in their own way.

**I see the same thought came to posters above.

They're just kids, in the end.

It would be nice as I think he has so far been a tad underutilized this year. Hopefully they have been saving him for the stretch run. He made two terrific catches against Michigan and McSorley missed him on a wide open slant that incidentally worked very well against OSU at home last year. If there was ever a time to get him involved in a big way, now is it.

Classic example of a kid who was forced into action too early due to circumstance. He wasn't ready. Now look at what he has become.

IIRC, he had a very nice freshman season, then had a case of the drops sophomore year and has rebounded (pun totally intended) very nicely.

Nothing to write home about. Had a terrible case of the drops sophomore year. Was a putrid and unwilling blocker both of those seasons. What a 180.

The stats obviously don't list the number of targets, but I don't think they threw to him that much his freshman year (recall, we had Jesse James and Kyle Carter, plus Adam Brenneman). I recall him having some nice catches when they used him and 1 catch per game (with 10 yard average) is nothing to sneeze at for a FR TE.

His sophomore year, I think the number of targets went up significantly, but he dropped a ton of balls.

His soph year, I just couldn't understand his case of the drops. You could tell he had a lot of potential and was a terrific athlete. Believe this is a case of him really working hard and look where it's gotten him. Love it.

It was mental. It happens from time to time. You start thinking too much and get tight. I'd much rather field a screaming line drive than a slow dribbling grounder (no time to think and screw it up).
