It is historically pretty easy for a young team led by a young QB to walk on air during the week after a big win. Here's hoping that the team leaders can get down to serious business early in the week, and be prepped to go to W. Lafayette and bring back a win.

This is where the coaches will have to keep the guys' heads on straight. As always, I'll be a nervous wreck.

We are fortunate that we aren't playing Indiana or Iowa this week. Both have decent teams. Purdue is so bad that we can have a bit of a letdown and still win.

Purdue played pretty well against NEB saturday. They've got a goo pro-style QB and a strong defensive line. They fired their coach two games ago and look like they have a chip on their shoulders. But they are not very talented. Observers think we will win big, but these are the same guys that predicted tOSU by 20 so there's that.

Indiana looked good against MSU, but, . . . Purdue has the same record overall and the same BIG record. Purdue is in a bit more chaos right now which should work to our advantage, but to date IN hasn't done much better than Purdue. It's likely that IN will have to beat Purdue at the end of the season to go bowling.

Good point, and I agree that this is a week when Franklin and his staff will earn their keep. Just as you don't want a disappointing loss to lead to another loss the next game played, coaches get that you cannot let a huge win distract from staying true to the process that got you there. Happens all the time in sports, so coaches are aware.... the young players may or may not be as aware and know how to prevent it.
Purdue is bad. And they have some turmoil with their coaching change. But they were bad last season too, and upset Nebraska. They throw the ball reasonably well, so they can keep us off balance if they have early success. If we are off on offense.... e.g. not blocking well against a new look from their D front, not connecting on our basic, favorite pass plays..... Purdue could stay close enough or get a lead and then it's a ballgame.
A somewhat similar instance happened at Minnesota this past weekend, with Rutgers showing life where none was previously to be found, and nearly upset a good Minnesota team on the road.
Coaches will be preaching this week, I'm sure. If I recall, JVP used to save his most intense practices ("Bloody Tuesdays") and individual gut-check challenges for the weeks when the whole world expected PSU to win easily. My guess is that is fairly standard practice, or should be.

The good thing is that Purdue is not very good. So I suspect that the PSU offense should be able to move the ball and actually have a running game similar to what they did against Maryland. And assuming Cabinda and Bell both play, that will help immensely also.

I think it is a local 11AM start and PSU has been notoriously bad when that has occured. But I do think that JFF will have this team fired up and ready to play.

This team seems to gritty and worked like to have a let down IMHO. They really do seem focused and resilient to let up. I also like the fact that they have shown the ability to take a punch in the mouth and fight back. Would I be shocked if they are down early? Not at all but I would be surprised if they lose the game.

Not that it matters but they are on eastern time so it is noon there.

You said "Danger." I said, "Grave Danger?" You asked. "Is there any other kind?"

I can have the court reporter read back what you said.

Purdue played well against Nebraska for a half...

1 - Nebraska has been an awful first half team this year
2 - Purdue had a little emotion in their favor coming off Hazell's firing.

It could be a tough game but how the heck did Purdue lose 50-7 to Maryland a month ago today?

I don't know. They seemed to play Nebraska pretty well until late (at least from the score updates I saw over the weekend). PSU traditionally plays very poorly at noon games on the road.

Before OSU, 1 of the big complaints was the team not ready to play from opening kickoff. This will be a challenge to the coaching staff to get the team motivated with a killer instinct from opening kickoff this week. If they don't, this could be an ulcer inducing weekend. ;)

Honest question..aside from Michigan (and even in that game)...has the determination and fight of this team been in question at all this year? No way they have a let down for Purdue.

Exactly! No game should be looked @ as a gimme by PSU. Purdue is right now like a cornered animal and they are going to fight hard. PSU must stay focused on this game and not look ahead. The few upper classman along with coaches need to keep the young guys calmed down and not getting the big head. If we beat OSU in a major upset, then Purdue will be looking for a "signature win" for their interim head coach and their players.

I'm thinking about driving over to Pudue 3 hrs from my home in Ohio, but I've had really bad experiences (unprovoked) with their fans both times I attended games @ Purdue.

For whatever reason PU has played Nebraska pretty well the last couple years. They upset them at home last year with an equally bad PU team.
I'm also not a fan of Tommy Armstrong. INMO he's incredibly over rated.

I don't like this spot at all for psu from an emotional standpoint. this is the quintessential sandwich game with another night game at home looming against an improving iowa squad. psu needs to focus on the fundamentals. hang onto the ball and continue to tackle well. this game has 1981 @ NC State written all over it... I expect a similar game. we'll grind out a closer-than-expected-win with the help of a trick play similar to a fake punt.

I think they will be fine. If anything, I think the OSU game gave them confidence. I expect an easy victory

I do not know about an easy victory, but I have no doubt Franklin will get it in their heads about the game. He showed that in getting the team up for the Minny game after the awful Michigan loss. I think a real positive for him as the head coach. Look at the direction MSU has been going in after they lost a few games?

The last two times we've upset OSU like this we went on to lose our next game. Let's break that streak this Saturday!

That might be so but each of those times, PSU faced a team that eventually finished 9-4 on the season. Do you think Purdue is anything close to a 9-4 type of team?

No way. I just hope it doesn't become a trap game is all.

I said to a few people today who have been praising Franklin that this week will be the real test of how good a coach he is.....

Purdue got a couple of key defensive players back healthy and playing on Saturday vs. Nebraska. Further, the interim coach seems to prefer to play a wild, unpredictable style of defense.

PSU had better be prepared to expect the unexpected.

NO, he passed THAT test a number of times. Some just love to be Negative. Kind of the glass is half empty, sad.

Rather, Purdue better be prepared to face an upcoming Big10 power who just got healthier and is on a mission to finish 10-2.

Was not intending to be negative, I am all in with JF, but this is good test for him as a coach to come back from an emotional win in a great atmosphere to what they will face next weekend at West Lafayette... ..I fully expect him to have them ready, but was just stating these kind of weeks are good challenges for head coaches, especially those with young teams...

I don't recall the context in which the movie discussed danger, but of course there are many kinds of dangerous situations which do not represent "grave danger," or "extreme danger."

For example we might face a danger of running out of beer at our tailgate, or a danger of a basketball game being cancelled because of snow. These would not represent grave dangers to most reasonable people.

The danger that there may be a God, on the other hand, would be a grave danger to you while a pretty inconsequential one to me.

I am thankful for the opportunity to set you straight on this matter. Please advise if I can be of further assistance. And one other thing: GOB BLESS YOU. :)

Purdue? I thought you guys just beat OSU? Seriously worried about Purdue? that's a good one.

Young team. gotta get very ready every week.
Every team (virtually) is potential trouble. The best way to show respect for your opponent is to work hard in preparation then go like hell as soon as the game starts.

Do that, and we should be able to handle Purdue. Their run defense is terrible. Let us see lots and lots of Mr. Barkley and his cohorts and we SHOULD win going away. Short of turning it over like seven times, I like our chances.

This is the big ten on the road. No better lesson in that
than what just happened at the beav. They have to be on to win and they have to overcome some fatigue from playing a super physical game. Maybe it's the offense that needs to control the ball since the d had to be on the field a lot. But I don't know the Purdue d. Given their trouble vs md maybe they will have trouble with the read option and Trace. But maybe their weakness is secondary. Have to take what the d gives you.

Franklin has yet to have his team play well one the road IMO, this game will be another test. Purdue looked motivated with their new interim coach. Some observers feel Purdue didnt perform as well as they should have the past few years and its a home game for them so...

As mentioned above, this will show us as much as osu what kind of coach we have with Franklin.
And we have to remember we are not far enough past the sanctions to say any game is a gimme with the youth, injuries and lack of depth. At 5-2, we truly have a small margin between 2-5 and 6-1. The win over OSU does not mean it is magically back to 1986, 1994, or 2005 times again.... at least not quite yet.
