FC: Great pic of Barkley on his long TD reception...

For a second it looked like he was high stepping and mocking the defender as Che slowed down to score. Then I swore I saw the ref give him a talking to. Anyone else see that?

Yeah it was out of line what he did. I was surprised it wasn't a flag. I thought he also had a conversation with Franklin too.
It happens, but if he learns from it that's what we need.

not just the TD......you were trying to cover me with a LB? :p
Used to play hoops against a kid who was pretty good. If someone not very good went out to guard him. He'D give you a "You've got no chance." He didn't realize he was even doing it. We nicknamed the look "his last name."

Much ado by couch potatoes about nothing. The ref handled it quite well....Franklin the same.... as for Nate Bauer calling a smile after a touchdown a smirk......well that might be what a jerk would call it..... He's gonna smile a lot Nate....get used to it!

Yes, it happened just like you saw it. There was discussion of it in the in game thread last night. Shortly after the broadcast showed CJF speaking to all the skill players, with Barkley front and center, presumably talking about how to handle themselves (act like you've been there before and/or expected to do it).

Saquon reminding me more and more of Barry Sanders. Won't be that good. But,
he has breath-taking ability and moves.

Barkley is much better at lowering his shoulder and getting yards. Sanders was more elusive but Barkley will be much better at moving the chains. Sander was an "all or nothing" back and Detroit had a better record after he suddenly retired than before.

Franklin was shown talking to Barkley and other players after Barkley's touchdown. At the end, Franklin gave Barkley a pat. Franklin didn't look mad or to be yelling, but the announcers said with certainty that Franklin was telling Barkley not to showboat. That could have been the usual announcer B.S. or maybe they got some inside information from a sideline reporter. Regardless, I hope Franklin did talk to him about it.

Define better. Detroit made the playoffs 5x in Sander's career(10yr). Once in the next 13?

Not surprising, is it? He'd already shown himself to be a good person.

Not sure if anyone saw his post game interview on B1G. When the gal interviewing him said thank you. He said "thank you....and have a nice day!" I was on the phone with my brother and we hushed until after the interview and we both broke out laughing at that. Nice kid.

HIs last year was 1998. The Lions were 5-11 that year. Sanders had just under 1500 yards rushing at a 5.0 YPC average. The following year, without Sanders, the Lions started at 6-2 and ended up with an 8-8 record. They made the playoffs and lost to Washington 27-13 in the first round.

Lol. No, I hadn't seen that. Like I said, a story like that isn't surprising but I love hearing it anyway.

Think of how good a recruiter he must be. I won't presume to know what the atmosphere is presently like in the locker room, but if it's what I think it is you can usually credit the leadership of your best players.

I didn't have sound where I was watching. So my take was independent of the announcers.

One year. LOL. Yeah, the next 12 were great. How bout the other years he played?

You asked me to defend my statement, I did. When asked why the Lions were better the year after Sanders retired, Ground Chuck said it was because their offense was more consistent in moving the chains and sustaining drives. Sanders, while one of the best of all time, gained 9 of first down and then got stuff the next two plays. (OK, he didn't say that but it is what he meant).

Sanders was a great back, don't get me wrong. He was probably the most elusive I've seen in my lifetime (OJ, Sayers to name two others). But he wasn't a third down kind of guy.

Funny... my initial reaction to the high-step was uh oh... and thehe mis-tosses the ball to another ref (I think it was another.. hafta re-watch) and gets lifted about 80 feet in the air by his teammate. I wasn't sure which action the ref was gling after him on... might be all 3. Regardless, he learned.

I wondered at the time if Gesicki was going to get flagged for his semi vince papale moment in the EZ. BTW, I'm so happy to see the buig guy coming intoi his own.

One of my fave moments was the kick late to Thomkins whgere he catches the ball and retreats back into the EZ, the sorta trots out before taking a knee at the 5 (TS must've loved that starting field position... gave him lots of field to pad his stats with, lol). Anyway, it was a great teaching moment where the coaches can show him what he needs to do next time and he'll remember. In a close game, that could have been problematic.. last night, it was a pat on the back, learn your lesson, move on to the next game!

The Lions record was what it was due to their coaching........to allude that it had anything to do with Barry Sanders style is absurd.

Your opinion. Fact is they were better the year after he left and the entire oftense was built around him when he left suddenly

Fact is Bobby Ross had the most dynamic running back in NFL history and was going to transform the Lions into a power running team. Fact is it was the primary decision that sent an entire fan base packing and led to an entire decade of monumental losing. Those are what the facts are.
