FC: Heart condition related to COVID-19 may be reason to cancel/postpone fall sports

Let's assume that possible heart issues are a result of covid for a unknown percentage of ALL people (students, athletes, coaches, bartenders, grocery store employees, etc).

Has anyone done a study to determine what the chances are of a football player contracting the virus while engaging in football related activities VERSUS the chances of the same individual contracting the virus OUTSIDE of football related activities? No, of course not.

In other words, are these football players going to head to their basements and self quarantine until a vaccine is produced? Or, will they engage in typical 18-22 year old behavior of visiting friends, attending parties, going to restaurants, gyms, etc.?

Maybe, just maybe, their chances of getting the virus are pretty much the same whether they play football or not?

And what if football is cancelled this year, but they play next year and the virus isn’t gone and a vaccine is only 50% effective? The players still have a chance of catching the virus and getting this heart condition....what then? I guess they will quit football forever since it’s too risky.

They have to cancel football until there’s a cure for COVID-19. Then football will present no health risk to players.

Close friend had a heart issue, Doc's had it under control. Guy was working out 5 days a week, diet was solid. Caught the virus, was dead in 2 weeks. This thing does not mess around.
How old was your close friend?

Once Covid is gone, football will pose no threat...what a great day that will be!

At the age of 34 I was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. It was idiopathic. [My friends all say that if idiots get this, they said I am such an idiot they can’t believe I lived.) I was in the hospital for 28 days.
I am now 72. My life has been watching my diet, exercising, taking my meds., getting my rest and avoiding colds and flu. I’ve been hospitalized 6 times for cardioversion.

So the article basically says that they're seeing it more but they're probably seeing it more because they're testing for it more.

That is a pre-existing condition which puts him in high risk category.

The article says “based on limited studies and anecdotal evidence”. Are we allowed to use that here?

I thought we could only use data from RCT double blind trials and testing.

this is just another BS issue that surfaced. it is not new, and has been around with many infections. it would be major speculation to suggest that COVID vs any other virus provides a different propensity. why would this be coming up now? why don't we have agreement among the medical experts?

Translation, they are worried about liability. They are not concerned about a player getting the virus, they are concerned the player will get the virus while playing football. Probably a greater risk for players if they are not playing football under the supervision of coaches and the teams medical staff.

they have not anticipated the lawyers bringing a class action suit for the impact on them of NOT playing. there may not be safe harbor. they may underestimate the players' resolve.

How are you going to prove that, genius?
It's not about proving it. However, it's possible and maybe even likely that without the demands and restrictions of the season, these guys will end up being at greater risk. If they play, the risk can be managed more easily, IMO.
