How about we give the players, coaches, and their families the right to make their own informed decisions on what they do with their lives? We have the right to be entertained- if they die, they die.

and along those lines.....let them call the plays and decide who starts and when to substitute etc. Because if "decision makers" don't decide the way we think they should, we go to the source. Perhaps college students should decide what comprises a curriculum and then take whatever classes they want and then declare (when they and their families decide) when they are graduates. How about we give the players, coaches, and their families the right to make their own informed decisions on what they do with their lives?
Close friend had a heart issue, Doc's had it under control. Guy was working out 5 days a week, diet was solid. Caught the virus, was dead in 2 weeks. This thing does not mess around.
Just move it to Spring in 2021 and never move it back. A Spring sport from now on. Problem solved.
very few people are actually informed on this virus- when the researchers at NIH go back to work in their offices, I'll believe it's safe to play footballHow about we give the players, coaches, and their families the right to make their own informed decisions on what they do with their lives?
Had a friend who was a fitness fanatic suffer a virus that settled in his heart. It was curtains. One of my best friends growing up caught the flu when he was 23 years old. Virus got to his heart, and he died. That thing does not mess around.
SEC would then be willing to play late season games at northern opponentsJust move it to Spring in 2021 and never move it back. A Spring sport from now on. Problem solved.

Klatt made some good points on B1G network last night. He was stating that this is all about liability for the U presidents. A kid is far more likely to be safe on a team surrounded by trainers, coaches, and physicians than at home or in a dorm. He said 20-year-old kids are going to look for the hottest chick that will swap spit (my words, not his) or beer pong or pass around a bottle of fireball whisky. He said that kids can quarantine before visiting family and that is still better than going home for the weekend once a month like most college kids. He also said "if our goal is zero infections, we lost before we started. That isn't realistic" (paraphrasing, really, before some idiot gets his quotes and fact-checks me). He said the difference is if a kid gets sick it is on the U president's watch whereas if they get sick at home, the president has nothing to do with it.We have the right to be entertained- if they die, they die.
No. They are also CUMULATIVE risks, not exclusionary. You can get a concussion, THEN get COVID.Are those contagious?
yeah- noNo one is going back to their offices. Not due to covid, but because it's CHEAPER for companies/govt entities to have their employees work from home.

Question, are we assuming college football players will not (for the "entire season) "swap spit" or "pass around a bottle?" Even if we are foolish enough to think that our choir boys at PSU will take a vow of celibacy and abstinence......do you really think that after an 0-3 or 0-4 start, that this will be the case in Illinois, Maryland, Rutgers......... so they can save their season. A season with no fans that leads to nothing for them? Mix in the possibility that a high profile player gets very ill and possibly develops myocarditis......this is a slippery slope. One must consider what the entire season might look like, not just how it starts when everyone is undefeated and full of optimism.Klatt made some good points on B1G network last night. I want to take the time to thanks ESPN for caring about the players' health more so than the actual players themselves and the players.
I kind of think it's comical how some on this board are so against endangering the lives of the players, when just in the last 48 hours the players and the players parents pleaded to let them play. I guess they do not care about their health as much as those posters.
School districts are sued all the time........But those school districts have a lot less money, so less chance of ambulance chasers coming by.
Same reason the so-called Sandusky victims sued PSU, not TSM
Public School Districts are most vulnerable on liability issues related to safety and students with special needs.School districts are sued all the time........
Let's assume that possible heart issues are a result of covid for a unknown percentage of ALL people (students, athletes, coaches, bartenders, grocery store employees, etc).
Has anyone done a study to determine what the chances are of a football player contracting the virus while engaging in football related activities VERSUS the chances of the same individual contracting the virus OUTSIDE of football related activities? No, of course not.
In other words, are these football players going to head to their basements and self quarantine until a vaccine is produced? Or, will they engage in typical 18-22 year old behavior of visiting friends, attending parties, going to restaurants, gyms, etc.?
Maybe, just maybe, their chances of getting the virus are pretty much the same whether they play football or not?
This entire site is comedy. Game day.....day after....win or lose. So many know more than coaches, doctors etc. Now its just science vs "let them play." If asshole could fly, this would be an airport. I love it!
The thought is that a) it is a much more controlled environment and b) that there will be tests given at least twice a week and they will have physicians available 7x24.I think we should let the kids decide.....mostly because I know how they will vote and it happens to be what I want.

Drama queen.
It’s way more than that to a lot of people who’s businesses and jobs depend on it. It’s also way more than that to the players who have put years of hard work into it. And what about the players coming out of high school who have trained and worked for an opportunity only to be told, sorry no room at the inn? Screw all those people as long as it doesn’t bother you or your life.Meh, it’s a game. There are far more important things to care about. If there is no season, whatever, there will be one next year.

what about the local hotel owners of small towns that depend on selling out their hotels during game weekends?
what about local restaurant owners?
what about campground owners?
the list goes on. this is much more far reaching than kids in the physical prime of their lives surrounded by medical personnel with every second of their day accounted for and tons of personal accountability to their teammates.
the vast majority of the kids wnat to play (and the ones that don't have opted out)
the parents of the kids (arguably the people who care about their well-being the most) want them to play
the coaches want to play
i don't get it.... i really don't.
@razpsu i'd love to get your opinion here as a business owner. Legit question, on a normal year, if you were to take away the business from the major holidays (memorial day, 4th of july, labor day.... etc) how much of a hit would that cause your restsurant? Granted i think it could be a little different because you're at myrtle, but in the land of the hypothetical, if you were in a small town would that affect you more?
@razpsu, i'd love to get your opinion here. If COVID were
Do you actually think that even if there is a season, there will be fans?
It really really sucks, it does, but just because some people are cavalier enough to care about a game more than their fellow citizens doesn't mean we need to cater to the selfish ones. Sometimes being a good citizen means caring about people other than yourself.
Sorry to hear about your friend. I have sent out 4 Sorry for your Loss cards this year. Never sent one out for the flu in my 60 years on this earth. One of my best buddies just got over the Covid. He was scared as hell, told me he did not think he was going to make it. I have had the flu a few times, and pneumonia. Doubt highly they are as bad as this. One of my best friends growing up caught the flu when he was 23 years old. Virus got to his heart, and he died. That thing does not mess around.
Kind of both. Interim director of a research groupis he a researcher or a suit?
Yes. If they were really worried about the long term effects of playing football there would be no football because of head injuries.Fact: Football causes concussions and cte.
LdN
The other side is that I know a ton of people, work with a ton of people, my wife works in an essential job, and I don’t know of a single person who got Covid....so there’s that.Sorry to hear about your friend.
