FC: Six ND players arrested...

Damn. In the middle of preseason camp these clowns are driving around in a dope car packing heat. I'd be livid. We will see, but I'd imagine they'd all be done for the year not necessarily for the crime, but the obvious lack of respect or seriousness to the team. It's not like they are lacking players at ND.

73 in 60 is not terrible. In my white upper middle class suburb, I'm not getting pulled over for that. It's over the limit, yes, and my teenager might get pulled over and a car full of black kids is getting pulled over, but the middle aged white guy is probably not getting pulled over.

Now I cannot defend them finding weapons and pot, of course.

These guys likely done after reading statement issued by the AD or President. A few are seniors so by example ND has to cut ties.

Are any of them real players? I didn't catch the names.
Yes. Redfield is on of their starting safeties and actually their leading returning tackler. The running back and linebacker also got significant playing time last year and look to be second string this year. Knowing Kelly, they will probably just get a slap on the wrist and maybe miss the first half of the Texas game, and that's it.

13 MPH over the limit is definitely fast enough to get pulled over. Generally I assume I'm safe 5 MPH over the limit...10 MPH and I see a cop and I slow down and hope to not see red lights behind me. I do background investigations for the federal govt. and have seen lots of people pulled over for 65 and 70 in a 55 zone. Depends upon the area, the cop's mood that day, whether it's state or local PD...LOL. It's not always about race every time a back motorist is pulled over. That assumption has to stop. Sometimes black drivers get stopped because they broke the law and deserve to be stopped...like everyone else.

And sometimes it is about race. And not believing that has to stop.

That's pretty much what I said...sometimes it's not. The implication being sometimes it is... . Not so hard to grasp that, is it?

And 13 MPH (68 in a 55 for example) is not unheard of or anything that should immediately make someone go...driving while black!

You're really going to make this about race? 73 in a 60 is OK for white people? I haven't had a ticket in some time but all of them have been for going something like 42 in a 30.

As I said, the middle aged white guy is not getting pulled over for that. I'm proof positive. Since the speed limit was 60, must have been a highway. Maybe I've been lucky, but I still contend that a carful of black kids is much more likely to get pulled over in that situation.

But what the heck. At least the cops didn't shoot them.

Argument over! He's white and hasn't gotten a ticket for 13 MPH over the limit so it's safe for all white drivers. Even though I know for a fact it's not because of all the tickets I've seen issued to white motorists for less.

So I'll make sure to drive 13 MPH over the limit and when I'm pulled over I'll make sure to tell the cop, but I'm white so it's okay.

One thing for sure, the ND administration will handle this better than the PSU administration handled the JS scandal. They did a good job handling the cheating scandal a few years ago. And when I say they will do a good job I don't mean that they will cover it up. I'm just saying they will address the problem w/o making huge headlines by rushing to judgement and throwing everybody under the bus.

Lets blame it on the cops again. What a joke . Happens all the time to white kids also.

Good point! I got pulled over in SC where they lower the speed limit to 55 which is ridiculous on a four lane highway. I was doing "65 in a 55"

If a police officer doesn't pull someone over for driving 13 MPH over the limit, he/she is not doing their job. Race has nothing to do with it!

Many areas use speeding as a revenue generator.

Very common to be allowed 5 mph over.

10 mph or more is often a trigger for a ticket.

Change the Subject line from six to five. Even your link says five as does the first line of the story.

Five Notre Dame football players were arrested Friday night after police stopped them for speeding and reported finding a handgun and marijuana in the car.

Read the whole article - I missed this first time too:

In a separate incident, Notre Dame cornerback Devin Butler was arrested early Saturday morning on preliminary charges of battery to law enforcement and resisting law enforcement in a separate incident.

not so much, actually

if you don't think that black kids are targeted more than white kids are then you must be new to this country

I'm not defending these particular idiots, but let's not pretend there isn't still a lot of prejudice in this country

I'm a middle aged white guy and I got pulled over for doing 70 in a 55 once and once for going 53 in a 45. I have friends (white middle aged guys) who got pulled over for doing 60 in a 55 in Ohio. 68 in a 55 is certainly justification for getting pulled over regardless of race.

Ha... Right you are Midnighter.
Thanks for the further explanation.

Just after I posted that, I did read further, saw the additional player info and deleted that posted info. Substituted info about experience with many locations ticketing folks for 10 or more mph over the posted speed limit.

Appreciate your posts Midnighter.

I travel I-80 quite a lot. They were going 13 mph over the limit. I've been pulled over going 11 mph over recently. The officer let me off with a warning. However, if he smelled weed coming out of my car, I'm sure things would have been similar to what these guys experienced. In PA, there is usually a 5 - 7 mph allowance. I wish you would keep race out of it, it's not even implied.
