You're really going to make this about race? 73 in a 60 is OK for white people? I haven't had a ticket in some time but all of them have been for going something like 42 in a 30.
Let's say it was about race and the cops profiled them and that's why they got pulled over - is this where you want to make your argument profiling doesn't work? Six kids driving around smoking weed with a gun?And sometimes it is about race. And not believing that has to stop.
Actually going 60 in a 60 zone while having marijuana and an unlicensed gun in your car is dumb regardless of race.Going 73 in a 60 zone while having marijuana and an unlicensed gun in your car is dumb regardless of race.
Don't know. ND does not have names on their uniforms. Are any of them real players? I didn't catch the names.
It's not like a head football coach forced them into a scissor lift in high winds to film practice.
It's weed...really? I thought we were finished with the "weed kills" thing? And the gun thing, where's the outrage that they were just exercising their 2nd smnemdment rights? Maybe Wayne is going to swoop in and come to their defense.
I mean the only way we are going to stop the next mass shooter if we are all packing right?
Just give them the speeding ticket and be done with it.
I hate domers like nobody's business but...
13 MPH over the limit is definitely fast enough to get pulled over. Generally I assume I'm safe 5 MPH over the limit...10 MPH and I see a cop and I slow down and hope to not see red lights behind me. I do background investigations for the federal govt. and have seen lots of people pulled over for 65 and 70 in a 55 zone. Depends upon the area, the cop's mood that day, whether it's state or local PD...LOL. It's not always about race every time a back motorist is pulled over. That assumption has to stop. Sometimes black drivers get stopped because they broke the law and deserve to be stopped...like everyone else.
Paging Pat "The Mouth" from Shermansdale !!!!

The question people should be asking is whether nd should continue to play football as a result of this and other recent incidents. Murder, fake girlfriend, marijuana, guns. It is a culture run amok. All nd athletic supporters, the vast majority of whom buy nd shirts at Wal-Mart and talk trash about the football program without ever setting a foot on the nd campus, are responsible for this.

73 in 60 is not terrible. In my white upper middle class suburb, I'm not getting pulled over for that. It's over the limit, yes, and my teenager might get pulled over and a car full of black kids is getting pulled over, but the middle aged white guy is probably not getting pulled over.
Now I cannot defend them finding weapons and pot, of course.
Try 73 in a 60 zone where I live and you will be talking to a Police officer before you get your car out of gear..And your age is not relevant.73 in 60 is not terrible. bd: I read the initial "driving while black" post as speculating. It could or could not have been the reason they were pulled over. I don't know how it works in South Bend or wherever you live but, in California, people routinely travel over the speed limit (70 mph on the freeway, where the posted limit is 55, is common), and do not get ticketed. Just my guess, but a car full of young black men is likely to draw more attention from the South Bend cops than a car being driven by a middle aged white man. Particularly if it is late at night (although I don't recall reading what time this incident took place). You're really going to make this about race? 73 in a 60 is OK for white people? Not to nitpick but they weren't even in the same county as South Bend, and I believe it was an Indy state cop who pulled them over.bd: I read the initial "driving while black" post as speculating. I am not new to this country. This has happened to me also in my past. Why does it always come back to race ? People need to be held accountable for their mistakes.not so much, actually
if you don't think that black kids are targeted more than white kids are then you must be new to this country
I'm not defending these particular idiots, but let's not pretend there isn't still a lot of prejudice in this country

The speeding thing happened to me too but they didn't find drugs and a gun in my car.
I don't know much about firearms laws so please bear with me but how does this work:
"Redfield, Stepherson Jr. and Williams also face an additional charge for possession of a handgun without a license."? I mean, how can 3 guys be charged with not having a license for one gun? If they can't determine whose gun it is, shouldn't all 5 guys in the car be charged?
I don't know whether it was dark out or not, which is what I said in my earlier post. But even if it was dark, the cop probably had headlights, and there may well have been streetlights. If it's dark out when this happened, how does the cop

That's pretty much the question Nick Saban was asking. Before he noted that the cops were Louisiana cops, and suggested that they were biased.I don't know much about firearms laws so please bear with me but how does this work:

I don't know if race factored in the traffic stop of these Notre Dame football players, and I certainly cannot condone their driving around with pot and an unlicensed gun.
But consider how many people here are upset by the mere suggestion that race could have been a factor. No one here has personal knowledge of the circumstances of this traffic stop, beyond what we have all read in media reports. How is the assumption that race was not a factor any less lamentable than the assumption that it was a factor?
