Flag planting garbage

To use a Franklinism to assess this situation.....
Well obviously, the way you don't let players plant a flag on your home field is don't lose to teams at home.

To use philosophers way to discuss flag planting......
External things are not the problem. It’s your assessment of them.

To use a modern civilian way to describe such events......
Who gives a crap what 20 year old kids do after a football game? You ask them to train all year long and make plays and win games, then when they get excited about it by celebrating after the very thing you ask them to do, you criticize and judge them.
Seems rational and fair.
Except (in the "modern civilian way") it's not celebratory, it's childish and incendiary.

The Japanese are still riled up about this flag planting on their home islands. Disgraceful conduct by the US Marines 😉

It would’ve been a good comment had he not said something along the lines of “they need to learn how to lose”. With that added comment, he is basically saying it was Ohio state’s fault.
I agree he wound up blaming it on OSU when their attempt at planting the flag began the melee.

I hear you...but first, he may or may not have known what happened. And second, he's a kid in the heat of the moment.

I think PSU running up the score and the flag planting are related. I am NOT FOR EITHER ONE but at the end of the day, the slighted team had the opportunity to do something about it. Play better football.
Not for running up the score with all first stringers,
It’s a stupid system where you have to run up the score to be recognized properly. But Coach Franklin was right about one thing. The guys on the end of the bench who show up every day and practice just as hard as the starters deserve to get to play football when they get their chance.

I don’t think it’s running up the score when we have backups in. These kids work hard every day. Let them get some reward.
Maryland still had first teamers in.
This country is getting too soft. Let the men be men.

To you, it's that. I could care less.
Maybe that's the way the 3's & 4's feel good about supporting the team for all the hard work they put in and didn't get on the field. That's an excuse I heard yesterday about some childish and incendiary actions.

You people who keep over-dramatizing this by claiming they "tried to plant a flag"..... are quite amusing - you can't PLANT a flag on duhO$U's field as it's an artificial surface with a solid subsurface. What really happened is a group of scUM players were celebrating at midfield on top of duhO$U logo and they had a scUM flag with them. This is not justification for duhO$U players (with the apparent consent of their disgraceful Coach) to literally break all kinds of laws and go into riot mode - a riot that could only be put out by the mass spraying of mace and sent a Police Officer to the hospital. Just absurd to keep claiming that this was a reasonable, or remotely justified, response to what was going on. BTW, scUM has every right in the world to celebrate their win on the field - no different than a World Series Champion celebrating on the field after they take World Series on road.

I don't really care about that stuff. I was happy for #4 but for every PSU #4, is a list of 20 "number 4s" with MD uniforms on that aren't so happy.

I guess, in today's game where you are trying to keep good players out of the portal, it is an issue. But I grew up when college teams had class. That, sadly, is much less these days.
I grew up in that era as well, but I can also remember OSU piling on after Adam was hurt and MSU giving the ball to an offensive lineman to score 49 and many more.

I’ll say it again, the MD players didn’t even react! I was there - they took it in stride! They had resigned themselves to what was happening in the first half. Their coach, . . Well, not so much.

I was at that game. It was the one I was walking out of the game after the injury and was sucker punched from behind and knocked to the ground by a very large suckeye fan, who then began to taunt me about how fragile the Nitanny tigers were. I have no use for duhO$U fans, especially when they try to knock out an opposing fan from behind who is less than half your size (I was 5’7” 150 lb. and he was over 6’ and 250 lb.).

I think you meant, 'couldn't care less.'

Not a fan of either action, but there's no equating the two. One may have been poor judgement, but the other resulted in violence and injury.

No, that low of a fine with today’s coaching salaries would mean nothing. Identify the players at fault and disqualify them from playing a game or more.

This^^^^ Any player that plants a flag is suspended. Any players that are there jumping with him are suspended as well. It would end it instantly.

Calling this a riot seems a bit over thee top to me. Now, burning down buildings, that's what I call a riot. And much of America doesn't call that rioting!

True, but it doesn’t address that (from what I’ve read) there were a lot of Michigan players who were peppered sprayed because they wouldn’t obey police commands to stop fighting.
In OHIO more Michigan players were pepper sprayed than OSU players? That’s a surprise TIC.

The entire thing was stupid from both teams and I hope it gets addressed in the off season. There’s no need or place for it.

25k to someone making 5M a year is like $250 to someone making $50k. Definitely not impactful at all.

Pretty good comment from the UM running back. I don't like the flag planting but a pretty good response from a kid in the moment and the emotion.

Eh. Everyone is anointing this kid after his interview but you could also interpret this as blaming everything that happened on the Buckeyes. He never says anything about UM planting the flag but says OSU needs to learn how to lose.

Agreed. My only point is don’t go on record acting superior and telling the other team they need to grow up and learn how to lose when your team started the mess and had multiple players pepper sprayed by police for their behavior (along with OSU players).

It’s best for both teams to shut up and apologize to the local stadium security and PD who had to deal with this mess. (And I’d say the exact same if Penn St was ever involved in anything like this).

Really, what do you call it when things are so out of control media personnel are maced in the eyes.... Police Officer sent to hospital?

https://247sports.com/article/michigan-ohio-state-fight-credentialed-big-ten-media-member-claims-to-be-pepper-spray-victim-240972534/
That was why I implied our definition of riots are messed up. We used mace against football players, but wouldn't use it during BLM riots. I watched 2 football rivalry games this weekend where all the announcers talked about was the good old fashioned hatred for each other!!!! You expect something different after the game???? Maybe some good old hugs?

Well, the media are the ones who advertise the whole game as " these teams hate each other" " good clean old fashioned hatred" inciting fans(fanatics) to hate each other. I remember games years ago when opposing fans would come to Beaver Stadium and be welcomed in and treated with respect! That's a joke now. And we can't go to many away venues without being called every filthy name in the book! Every great society in history, before their demise, made the athletes and entertainers their gods, so that's where we are ! Wanting to kill because they beat us in a game!! I was actually being sarcastic, comparing riots during BLM. And news reporters and leaders saying they weren't riots!

Yep, then they go out to find fans doing outrageous things like bonfires of opposing team stuff, hanging players or mascot’s in effigy and more.

They play it up then cry crocodile tears 🐊💦when 💩 happens.

Like one friend said when the fight started…..”The announcers are saying ‘this terrible this is for football’ while the producers are yelling ‘don’t dare cut away!”

I was at the game. I blame both teams, but UM to a larger degree. Don't rub a loss in their noses, and this brawl never happens. The OSU players were leaving the field until the Michigan flag appeared and then all hell broke loose. The crazy in CFB is just starting. With NIL out of control, fans paying ridiculous money for tickets, the media beating the "hate" drum etc. etc. CFB is heading downhill and will get worse. If you have noticed, the country has become increasingly tribalized. This is not true just in politics. This just adds to the problems CFB is facing.
