Yeah, that quote is wrong on so many levels. Irresponsible, inappropriate, untrue, but mostly a stupid thing to say."College kids are dumb and college wrestlers even more so"

Another typical, TF stupid comment.Yeah, that quote is wrong on so many levels. Irresponsible, inappropriate, untrue, but mostly a stupid thing to say.
This is the biggest part of my disdain for Foley: he posits himself as a thinking man and an advocate for the sport. And he smears its participants is the most casual way possible. Routinely.
Does anybody on here actually know foley? I can't figure if he actually loathes the sport he is paid to cover or if this is a created persona.
There also seems to be a high degree of what the diplomats call "going native."
I don't know him/have never met him. However, I'm pretty sure he likes wrestling. He was an AA wrestler for UVA in 2004. He also was an assistant coach at Columbia.
He got a journalism masters at Columbia (believe while he was coaching). That kind of launched him as a wrestling journalist.
I'm fairly certain that he likes wrestling. He wrote a great series a few years ago about traveling around the world to see all types of wrestling -- a lot of it was unique to the country he was in (kind of like folk is to the USA).
For whatever reason, he seems to be a little too sloppy or flippant with his remarks. I use to think it was restricted to when he was speculating, but it seems to go beyond that. I think he does much better writing feature stories about International wrestling. His style, or his lack of discipline, does not seem to lend itself to answering weekly questions, and pontificating, in the Mailbag.
To draw a work analogy: Foley strikes me as the engineer who loves the product but hates the customer and the shop guys, and can't figure out that there is no product without them.
Yep. UVA grads generally maintain stratospheric opinions of themselves. He went to UVA. Many Wahoos are just a little too impressed with themselves. I went to grad school there and witnessed it first-hand.
All that said, I'd send my kids there in a secoinnd and would retire to CVille even quicker than that.
Especially when you guys drone on and on about Folk Style. You all are just a bunch of loud, rude, typical Americans.
No, my thought is it needs to be posted...members of this community can decide whether to open and read.Maybe the mailbag no longer worthy of a weekly link? Just sayin'
I like it. Creates controversy and some good back and forth. I like that Jammen is always nipping at him for his aversion to folk style. No, my thought is it needs to be posted...members of this community can decide whether to open and read.
