Fourth best team in the SEC West?

Well, without a pounding running game, I can see where any of Georgia, Florida, Texas A&M, and 'Bama would be more than Penn State can handle right now, but that's all of the SEC, not just the West.

From an SEC homer, of course. Greg McElroy believes that Penn State would be the fourth best team in the SEC West. Now I have to go and cheer for Auburn to win the rest of their games.

Auburn is probably, at least, the 3rd best team in the west right now so Elroy is already wrong.

Let him talk. I think this only fires up this team more. It will be fun watching/ listening to him weekly after every PSU win.
I will be rooting for Auburn to win out.

I will be cheering for Auburn as well. (not to mention Wisky). But looking at Auburn's schedule......I can't see them at any better than 8-4.

Just win, baby. These guys are so far out of the ‘arena’ they aren’t even in the parking lots

I just took a look at their schedule. I can see them with maybe 2-3 more losses. I'm not as "high" on A&M or LSU as others. The Arkansas game could be interesting.

I don’t get conference unity, in particular the SEC. Alabama stomps that whole conference on a weekly/yearly basis and all the losers can say is “this is awesome!” When the patriots were winning the AFC East for 15+ years in a row I never heard a dolphin, jet, or bills fan brag about it once. Weird.

I can't see them beating Georgia or Alabama. LSU, Ole Miss and A&M .....don't see them winning all 3.....Arkansas is an unkown. That's why I thought 8-4.

Just like I always say, bide your time and someone will make your point for you.

Interesting that our fan base was "upset" but we only have one thread that is 70 minutes old. It's a hot take. They gotta sell their brand.

My only issue: our writers won't do this for us.

It's idiotic. Plain and simple.

Let's break this down and see if its true:
-LSU lost to UCLA
-Miss State lost to Memphis
-Texas A & M struggled with Colorado, holding the Aggies to 10 pts. The Buffs got housed by Minnesota @ home, 30-0
-PSU beat Auburn
-Ole Miss is legit this year
-Arkansas has no passing game
-Alabama is of course a dominant team

McElroy, a total SEC homer is way off base.

I'd buy 3 at this point, but not 4. Either way, it still probably puts us in the top 5/6 in the country.

Ask any Alabama fan their confidence level of beating Auburn in the Iron Bowl, I doubt you'll find it as high as McElroy would have you believe. Like Alabama each year we got Auburn's best shot last weekend, and came up big.

It's impossible to argue with everything you pointed out. Legit facts. I'd even go as far to say that Ole Miss, while impressive, is untested. They get a bye to rest for Bama.

Bama gets to clean up with So Miss. Even more interesting is the week after. Bama has A&M, Ole Miss has Arkansas. The West will either be sorted out some or a complete cluster with an upset and game splitting.

OK then. I'm sure those guys would agree Auburn would at best be the fifth best team in the Big Ten East. Penn State beat Auburn and I'm sure Ohio State would be favored if they played. Michigan and one of Michigan St./Maryland is better than Auburn. Hey, if the SEC homers can have opinions so can everyone else. Aside from Alabama, none of the undefeated teams in the SEC West have looked very impressive. LSU is headed for a four loss season. But they can go ahead and beat the SEC drum if thy want. That's part of their job.

LSU could lose 6 more games this year and it probably wouldn't require an upset. The only game I see them being favored in during the month of October is UK. And that is dependant on how the Auburn game goes the week prior.

I think Auburn would be 3 or 4 in the Big Ten East. OSU, UM and PSU would likely finish ahead. If UM falters they could be 3. I don't see MSU, or Maryland being better.

It should be noted that Auburn has not won a road game against a B1G team for at least 100 years, perhaps never.

I'm not even sold on Georgia yet. That defense looks good I guess but based on what? Clemson? Clemson stinks this year. And Georgia's offense looks just as bad as their defense looks good.

They'd finish behind Alabama

Who else would they finish behind? Way too much love is being given to Ole Miss and Arkansas (though Arkansas is deserving), and A&M hasn't exactly looked the part this year so far

But if Alabama does beat Auburn this year, I sure Elroy here will praise the victory as if Alabama just beat Tom Brady and his Buccaneers.

Offense showed up pretty good vs South Carolina. They don't seem to have a go-to guy with Pickins still out and they seem to have the same RB room issues we have (load of talent but no definitive bell cow).

South Carolina moved the ball better than Clemson. Passing was nearly even, but SC at least had 80 yards rushing (albeit at a miserable 2.4 ypc). TD was in garbage time.

Big thing I'm seeing is that UGA is a little sloppy with the ball. 5 turnovers in their two significant games. How will that play out vs Arkansas in two weeks? Auburn in 3?

Kirby has the D built like his DC days at Bama: devour the run, make em throw into tight coverage under duress. Arkansas and Auburn will show their true colors.

Way too much love is being given to Ole Miss and Arkansas (though Arkansas is deserving)

Arkansas deserving because of what? Beating a Texas team that's been overrated since Vince Young beat USC?

Only key difference in them is Ole Miss is built to move the ball on everyone. Arkansas isn't quite Army/Navy level but can they throw?

The SEC can be very myopic. I still don’t get the Texas A&M love. They barely hung on to beat Colorado 10-7. Minnesota went into Boulder the following week and beat Colorado 30-0. Yet somehow Texas A&M is great?

If Texas A&M was currently in the Big 12 they’d be ranked lower and would not be getting the love from McElroy and Finebaum. Just the opposite. They’d be ripped for being overrated. However, put them in the SEC, with the exact same results, and now they’re considered a top team. All that matters to them is conference. It’s very cult like.

Yeah, I was especially impressed with how Texas A&M handled Colorado. Frightening.

I wonder where McElroy would rank Clemson in the SEC since they’re barely the second best team in Georgia.

I read somewhere that there is one other team that has beaten 2 ranked teams in the first 3 weeks. Was it Bama? And isn't one of those ranked teams they beat now unranked? Whereas the 2 ranked teams that PSU beat are both still highly respected by both the media and the coaches in the polls.

PSU is undefeated against the SEC's ranked teams. How many SEC teams will be making that statement a few weeks from now.....

Given any regard, or even listening to, any of the SEC hype is a waste of time. Instead of trying to put PSU down the SEC hype train should try and address the obvious bias and poor quality of their officiating. Something that anyone that watched this past weekends PSU/Auburn game would like addressed, and something that a self proclaimed top college football conference should surely be embarrassed by.........
