Let me start off by saying I really like CJF being our head coach but this past week he seems to be coming off as a whiner.

We all know what happened earlier this week at his Tuesday presser and today after the game he continues to show that the fans and media are getting to him.

First he starts and ends his PC by saying “I wanna thank the loyal and positive Penn State fans” and basically implies he only appreciates “them”. Like if anyone is even remotely critical of anything with his team but are die hard fans, he has no time for.

Also in the PC he brings up again “why was my 4th down decision on the goal line at the end of the game the right one? Cuz it worked”. That line was also part of his whiny rant this past Tuesday, when talking about not onside kicking at the end of the Minny game. I got news for you James, in both instances it was the only decision any competent coach would’ve made. But it shows he’s still hung up on the questions about going for 2 last week.

Also in the presser he mentions running 12 personnel in which the 2nd TE would basically act as a fullback and “make us happy”...and then some reporter jokes about putting a QB under center and he goes off on a little rant about all the reasons not to do it but also states that the only good reason is for the sneak. Guess what James, the sneak is the only reason you should run it!!!!

I don’t know, I’m probably overreacting but I just don’t think it’s a good look for James. Here is a link to the presser after the game.

WTF you provide a link of the PC and you still get the opening quote wrong. You put a word "Only" in that he didn't say. Kind of important.
He explained really well the TE as FB in a pretty clever snark kind of way. I liked it. He also explained really well about the QB being under center. You should go back and listen again.
And yes I do know you are over reacting.

Sorry double post courtesy of the Rivals update the site during the season braintrust.

The best course of action for a coach is to act like Bellichick in front of the media. It certainly is annoying that some are interjecting their opinion rather than simply asking questions. It’s also gotta be frustrating that Franklin has learned some have a certain agenda. The current course of action isn’t going to get him anywhere. He’s not going to teach everyone in the room how they should view the game of football.

You could definitely tell in the beginning of his presser and he makes it very clear at the end of the PC about the “only” part.

That is not what he said. This is what he said:

"I wanna thank our loyal, positive fans that come out and support us. We got a great crowd. I wanna make sure that we thank them and, and don't take them for granted, because they've been, they've been outstanding. We had a great crowd again today."

You inserted "only." He never said that. Listen again.

That isn't what he said tho

That isn't what he said though. Your quote is wrong and misleading.

CJF has been too accommodating and friendly with the beat writers. I actually like that and there are benefits. But some have taken CJF’s openness and willingness to answer questions as an invitation for loser reporters to offer input or as an indication that they are equals.

they are not.

I just wish CJF would just cut some of them out of the PC or rotate the ones who don’t know what they are talking about to boring interviews with staff.

Well it definitely lowers the possibility of people getting their quotes wrong if you give them 1 word answers.

Yeah I listened to him interviewed and he didn’t say anything remotely like you claim. He explained in detail precisely the thought process for why he went for it on 4th. His explanation made perfect sense and was the right call. My god some of you people go out of your way to criticism him even a very good win today. By the way where are all of the “geniuses” who claim you can’t run power football out of the RPO set? Let’s see 18 plays, ran off 9 minutes and 1 second off the clock to punch in the winning TD right after Indiana drew within 3. That was a big time, gutsy drive.

Well I guess I overreacted and took it the wrong way. But I hope he knows a fan can be critical of some aspects of his team and his coaching, yet still be very “loyal.”

That drive is what we needed against USC in the Rose Bowl and against OSU in 2017 and 2018 to close out those games. Hoping that is a real confidence builder for the entire offense.

Agree but I think you quoted the wrong person. I'm right there with you.

The position requires a thick skin.

Joe handled it pretty well until late in his career when he was physically worn out and turned into a crankly old man. O'Brien got fed up with the JoeBots. Now Franklin's feeling the heat. He brought some of that on himself with his comments about being elite after last year's OSU loss.

More importantly... was he asked about or did he address the chronic breakdowns in the secondary ??

There is no heat he is feeling. I laugh when people suggest that.

It's complete and utter crap how before the game: "Indiana is going to be tough, they are 7-2, they pass really well, Minnesota exposed us."

Then after: "Franklin and stuff should be fired for letting Indiana hang with them. Clemson is destroying their fringe top 25 opponent. Why aren't we?"

Pick a side.

I was too and yes the North Enzone was doing plenty of booing. But it wasn't directed at Franklin or the team it was the fact that the IU coaches were way too far onto the field. Allen is a whack job and was on the field constantly.
Was at the game with my daughter. She commented that the IU coach was a lunatic.

Pretty sure he knows that.

And pretty sure you just described the best fans. Loyal with high expectations.

Yea we thought there could have or should have been at least 2 or 3 flags on their staff for that. They were way too far on the field it wasn't the level of PJ Fleck (what was he thinking) but it wasn't that far off. And they had already been warned.

I’m hoping Franklin brings the team out next week with their names on the back of the jerseys and white cleats. Seeing the fallout on this board would be entertaining.

You seem to go out of your way to be critical is the beef I have with you and a few other posters. It certainly doesn't give you the look of being loyal.
