Franklin and Breese at wrestling match

Clarifying, it was an NCAA violation for PSU to tweet the picture via the "cannot publicize visit" rule.

Bresee. Breese has a big football game in New Orleans today. He’d have been at the wrestling match otherwise.

Great news the basketball team wasn't home this weekend. Rather have JF taking Breese to a wrestling match instead of seeing that pathetic basketball team. Franklin had ALL defensive coaches at the match with Breese. Franklin had a recruit at the wrestling match last week and was by himself with the kid. Breese is definitely a big priority for Franklin and I see why.

Bresee is a good HS player, especially for not picking up a ball until Nov 15. The kid behind Franklin, Tim Furgeson is a very good wrestler, potential MD state champ this year.
I just saw a video on his twitter of him doing a pretty athletic dunk in a warm up. Not bad at all for 290 pounds.

He lost in the State Championship match last year. The previous year, he did not place at States. BTW, doesn't the wrestling coach at the high school also have the last name of Ferguson. Are they related?

Franklin wasn’t by himself last week. Limegrover was definitely there as was Pry.

Franklin takes recruits to wrestling or ice hockey. Wouldn’t have mattered if the basketball team had a home game.

Not to derail the thread, but this is pretty telling about the state of our basketball program (as if there aren't any other signs). Most programs have coaches that take their recruits to basketball games. Our coaches take recruits to sold out games for other winter sports.

The support for basketball can be there if the athletics department puts more emphasis on the program.

What makes Franklin such a great recruiter is his ability to connect to players and be personable. The PSU Football interns have profiles on the recruits that are kept up to date about their personal lives so it makes it even easier for the coaching staff to connect.

Kids love a loud and packed atmosphere no matter what the sporting event is, and Franklin knows that. Yes, some of the recruits are more connected to basketball, but Franklin would rather take them through Pegula or Rec during Hockey/Wrestling where it is shoulder to shoulder and the support is there for Penn State.

Penn State Basketball + BJC is a terrible combination

When PSU baseball coaches were recruiting my son, they took us to a basketball game in January. Cold as the Arctic and snowing as we walked from the baseball field to BJC. It was a blowout loss to another BIG team in a half empty arena. Not impressive.

Bama/UGA take recruits to UK basketball games, Clemson takes them to Duke, UM/OSU to their game, etc...

Duke @ UNC is a Sat game this year and will probably have 50+ football recruits there who have no care to play football at UNC, they just want to watch the hoop game.

I don't know if Franklin plays that way, but would he approach Sandy trying to claim that the state of our basketball program negatively affects his recruiting? If he did, Sandy might tell him to stuff it.

On a related note, what does Franklin do if the men's basketball team is at home and the wrestling and men's hockey teams aren't? Does he take recruits to a movie?

PSU just got another CB for Bresee. Our percentage ticked up to 50% and the leader.

The OSU writers who CB’ed him to the Buckeyes won’t change their picks until Ohio State makes the decision to cool off his recruitment.

Wow. If being at a school that on the rise and that is close can overcome the allure of the CLEM/ALA/UGA same old....just wow.

You said it. I think a lot of recruits get the feeling PSU is soooo close and they can be a part of it. The Rise to the Top. Maybe even be one to play a major part of it. Much more exciting than just plugging in another guy. Although there is something to be said about that as well. Hopefully PSU has that problem in a few years.
