Franklin getting into it with PSU fans

Men who spend an inordinate amount of their free time shitting all over people, to an outrageously exaggerated degree, have absolutely had it with another guy who asked a student his name, because you have to be better than that, dontcha know? Story at 11.
What? That made no sense. Anyway, he can't be getting into it with a student. What poor judgment. He needs to worry about how he can become a better gameday coach vs OSU.

And on top of getting into an argument, why is Franklin asking the guy for his name? What does that matter? It feels a bit bully-ish. An anonymous person is giving Franklin grief and Franklin, a wealthy, powerful guy, wants to know the identity of the person giving him grief? Why? So he can get some retribution? It feels kinda creepy. Just walk off the field.

I just wish the kid had said "John Smith, now explain yourself!". Did he want the kid to be banned from the stadium, or to face some kind of sanctions from the University? And this isn't the first time that he has acted like a little bitch because he was justifiably questioned on his way to the tunnel. And yes, I would say that to his face if anyone can connect us.

Yeah he had a rough day but, in fairness, his WRs simply did not come to play today. He had no one to throw it too other than the RB and the TE.

That said, it’s more a point of the feast or famine in recruiting. We got a highly ranked QB…..but no WRs for him to throw too. It’s like buying a gun but no bullets.
The OL did not show up today....WRs have little to do with deep red zone chances....where we have been bad all season...and truly for much of JFs time here. Our inability to close out games running the ball on our own terms (which JF mentions) has cost this team MULTIPLE conference title game appearances. Yes, the WRs blow...but when u can't push people around, it doesn't matter how much speed or quality receivers you have. The LOS is soft and hasn't changed in 11 yrs

I like CJF’s reaction to the “fan”. Too many people these days confuse being anonymous on their phone with real life. You notice how the kid tucked his tail and called away when James called him out. Coach wasn’t trying to fight with him, he just taught him a lesson. Be man enough to stand behind your comments. A lot of people in our society could use a lesson like that.

Franklin is a tool. He should have spent the energy disciplining his team’s showboaters instead of worrying about a random loud mouth in the stands. After watching his teams lose with their lack of toughness and discipline over the years it makes him look petty. Par for the course. I guess the silver lining was that the sports information director didn’t have to step in to speak on James behalf this time.

Yep. That was part of my original point regarding the ‘can’t fire Franklin because of recruiting’ concerns.

As a coach you ignore that stuff. Tom Landry set the standard. No I am not a Dallas fan but damn he was professional.

The not too distant future could be next year.
If you want to understand why we lost yesterday, it really isn't complicated. Simply go to the menu at the top of this board and click on FB Recruiting. Then compare recruits for Penn State vs. Ohio State from 2022 to 2025. We have about half 4* and half 3* recruits each year. Essentially no 5* recruits. Ohio State averages about five 5* recruits each year with all the rest being 4* recruits. Ohio State takes essentially no 3* recruits. That is why we lose every year to Ohio State. They have better players. Simple as that.

speaking of 7th graders, how about the students throwing stuff at the PSU players? Many of them didn't stay on the field to finish the alma mater. We'll see how this team bounces back but I could see them packing it in if no one wants to support them.
His entire team acted like 7th graders throughout the game. No discipline. No poise.
That's coaching.

Yeah no one wants to hear it but we're 1-13 vs the top 5 because we lost to 13 better teams.

Franklin does not believe in a scheme that produces road graders. Sorry, but non-stop shotgun does not put the offense in a strong position to consistently run the ball, and we see the results over in over in crucial situations.

Without Franklin's recruiting skill we will likely become Rutgers or Maryland or Northwestern.
I don't believe that for a minute.

The 110k white out fan base that impresses every recruit on game days doesn't leave with Franklin.

The PSU football tradition doesn't leave with Franklin.

The NIL doesn't leave with Franklin.

The letterman, NFL players that help recruit, and all the other help he gets recruiting don't leave with Franklin.

The recruiting budget, including helicoptering around on Friday high school football nights, doesn't leave with Franklin.

But the Big Game pathetic game coaching would leave with Franklin. And that's what needs to go!!!

And for winning 10+ games multiple years Franklin's roster is still void of the playmakers that uh-high-ya, UGA, Bama, USC, Oregon, and some other top teams have. And lately, even his top rated recuits seem to underperform in any game that PSU is an underdog in. Is that the player or the coaching, DDS was a 4/5 star, now in his 3rd season, and he is MIA in big games, for example. Singleton, national high school player of the year as a H.S. senior averages about 2 yards/carry yesterday.

Honestly, I'd rather have a coach that can beat uh-high-ya 2 out of 5 but loses to Iowa or Wisky than have PSU be the perennial little brother to uh-high-ya and UM. And going forward likely Oregon as well.

Which is why I can't see why some stick up for Franklin's recruiting. He's a 2nd 15 recruiter most years.

Yes. All of that is true. And it does affect the depth of the teams. It had little effect on yesterday's loss.

-Zero points while inside the 5. Twice. Poor play calling and poor execution are both to blame.
-A lack of even an average WR.
-Poor discipline and soft players.
-The defense put more points on the board than the offense.

How many times has the team had OSU on the ropes over the years and let the game slip away. It's not always on the quality of the players.

Something is significantly wrong with the program. And it's not the number of stars beside the recruits name.

Well, we are “out-starred” every time we play OSU. So one could say we actually outplay our talent level in order to put OSU on the ropes, but then we stop outperforming our talent level and can’t close the deal.

Ohio State did, they just didn’t get called for anything.
Pretty sure nobody from Ohio State whipped off their helmet in celebration. I mean, that's a pretty blatant and obvious one.

Stepping over a player is one of those judgment calls akin to PI or holding. It probably happens several times in a game, but not every instance will be called. We got called for it. Washington has to know not to put himself in that position -- period.

The only thing comparable was Will Howard's final first down gesture at the very end of the game. Sure, they could have called that one because he was so close to Kobe King when he gestured. Great. 15 yard penalty changes absolutely nothing at the very end of the game.

Bottom line -- control what you can control, and this is not the first time we've had players pull this kind of shit.

The guy from OSU who got the pick in the end zone, was on the field, without his helmet, dancing.

You serious? That was during and immediately after the replay. Long after the actual play. He didn't even remove his helmet until he got to the Ohio State sideline.

Reed took off his helmet literally a few seconds after Tracy's touchdown. Watch the replay. He's unbuckling his helmet straps right as Tracy crosses into the end zone.

LOL. The two aren't even remotely the same.

It's tempting to just blame the refs for our loss, but that schtick gets real old and papers over our very real problems.

I get it was different circumstances, but still the same act. I saw a Tennessee player intercept a ball and keep it…no flag…not any different than handing it to your mom. The rule is you hand it to the ref or leave it on the field, so either refs should call it a penalty or they shouldn’t, not pick and choose when they call it.

Then complain when they don't call it when they should have not when it was called correctly

I think you are severely understating what a change would bring

Consider Nebraska, Texas, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Auburn, and more that imploded after the successful coach was removed and replaced. Most of those schools were in the football desert for years.

Near and dear to our heart, Michigan kicked Lloyd Carr for Rich Rod, then brought in Brady Hoke. How many years were they a program that no one looked at as “playing for National Championships” like the expectation here.

Or we could become Georgia...risk reward
I wouldn't fire Franklin current but he should be under pressure to start winning big games. He's been here too long for it to basically be an automatic loss.

I have no problem with CJF asking the person who was jawing at him what his name was. That person was a coward and a pansy ass by turning his back , walking away, and not engaging Franklin in a civil dialogue.
