If he had hired him, he’d have to hire another OC probably the next season because, unless Kelly simply no longer wants to be a head coach, he’ll probably leave OSU very quickly to take over a new program.
No loss. PSU hired an excellent OC in Coach Kolenicki.
This is another hot off the press inside scoop story originally started by the guy who’s cousin is friends with another guy whose sister married a cop that went rogue, and while in lockup he spilled the beans that he once arrested a priest who said he heard it in confession that Kelly was seen wearing a blue jacket with the letters UPS stenciled in the lining.
It wasn't clear that Kelly wanted out in December, though. That's the issue.
Kelly's relationship with the UCLA AD has deteriorated this offseason from reports, and the last few weeks he's been looking for an escape. That wasn't the case in December. It probably wasn't even the case when OSU first got BoB.
The timing worked out perfectly for OSU. But that doesn't mean it was ever realistic for us given the timing of our hire.
It was a great hire for them. I also think our OC hire was good too, so there's no sense in complaining about it. But those suggesting that he's not a good enough hire for PSU are coping hard. Just like every offseason. I remember the whole "Justin Fields is way overrated" talk, or "Haskins is soft". Last offseason, it was all about how our QB and defense were better than theirs. Hope springs eternal

This board was all over Fields' struggles during the 2019 spring game. I remember specifically the debate of Fields vs. Clifford and the idea that Fields wasn't even good enough to beat out Jake Fromm, so why would we want him?
Pretty common take on PSU social media and boards at the time.
Kelly is a brilliant offensive innovator but basically useless when it comes to recruiting and communicating with kids and parents. OSU hired him for his offensive knowledge only
This board: Tom Allen failed as HC at Indiana, but if focused only on the defense, he's a great choice!

This is what sunshine pumpers do. They cry about every player and team that PSU can't beat. It's a pathetic look. The 247 guys at On3 do it all the time. And if you push back they ban you...lol.
From the time Harbaugh was hired with Michigan, the PSU kool aid drinkers were attacking him. He's overrated, he's weird, he cheated. Meanwhile all he has done is kick the crap out of PSU the last two years and win a Natty.
We'll see what Allen turns out to be but neither the QB that OSU picked up or Kelly are slam dunks. We'll see how that works out but right now odds are about even that it's a disaster or positions them to take a step to the next level.
OB failed to run Zwinak in important situations because we (Indiana) can't tackle him) that is the story as explained to me by a fellow attendee from Indiana.
Side note: we still exchange e-mails about Indiana vs. PSU games.
He cheated . I am convinced half of you would accept our own coach cheating as a cost of doing business if it lead to a natty.
