Franklin, your balls dropped today

I mean, if beating a mediocre Minnesota team by 1 is proof that his balls dropped, okay. Nobody watching this game is going to fear Penn State, that's for sure.

This team has way, way more talent than Minnesota. We didn't play up to that.
Bro cmon that fake punt? And pass on 4th and 1? Give him credit.

Cmon, they didn't play well at all. Give credit for decision making at end .

Once again PSU does all they can to give it to the opponent and they don’t take it. Kessler and Danielson called it onions but then Nessler said grapefruit. Jimmy finally is all in. Kudos for finally making it happen despite the special teams imploding.

Never saw so much time elapse for a punt. Cannot believe we won despite the ST nonsense.

His job was on the line and he rolled the dice and won for once… no turtle in him now.
Whoa--wait, his job wasn't "on the line"--he would have just been bashed.
He also likely thought that if we get stuffed there's enough time with 3 timeouts we get the ball back like the end of the first half

Minny is 3 or 4 plays/calls away from a 9 win season….they are not mediocre.

Congrats to Franklin on taking risks and playing to Win and not to lose! Three 4th down conversions in the final drive was amazing. You would have gotten destroyed by the fans and media if you punted and let them drive down the field to kick a field goal. So you deserve all the credit for not letting that happen.

You're right--they're not mediocre--they're subpar
They lost to UNC and Rutgers--please stop making them better than they are
We got their A+ game--we played our C- game and won
Please stop making subpar assessments, Minny is a solid team. They’re QB , RB, WR’s and some OL will have a real shot at the next level….and most of their defense is good. That freshman safety is ridiculous

Minnesota is not a good team. How many times have you seen them play this year? Individuals having some talent doesn't make a team good...ask OU

They are mediocre. They aren’t better than Iowa or Illinois. A mid pack team but had a week off and it was senior day. Nevertheless the Days almost cost the season.
They played well and we didn't for chunks of the game. We found a way to win which helps us mentally in the playoffs.

This is football. It isn't golf. Not bringing your A game when your opponent brought their A game means you did not come as prepared. Again. It's that simple.

PSU had a lot more to play for too. So why?

Because it's tough to get up for games you don't see as a threat
See the SEC on a continued basis this year or Ohio State/Nebraska

Bama's struggling with OU--is OU is agood team?
Ole Miss lost to Florida--are we now pretending Florida is a good team?
Kentucky won 1 SEC game this year--are they good because they beat Ole Miss?
Rutgers beat Minnesota who we're now claiming is good--does that make Rutgers good?
There's very few good teams--that doesn't mean a Minnesota or USC can't play their A game and give you a game despite you being significantly better.
With a larger playoff we're going to see more of these things not less because there's more room for error (losses) without ruining your chances.

The #5, #9, #14, and #16 teams all lost and the #7, #12, #15 teams are currently struggling. All teams have bad games so it's nice to win one where we played so poorly.

Also, Pitt lost their 4th straight. That's not related to anything but I just wanted to point that out.
lol--I was going to say "we wanted Pitt to win"
But, yes, the key is finding a way to win when you don't play your best--we do that. As much as we all wish we played a stronger game we found a way

Franklin holding the offensive play sheet late in the fourth quarter with his hands trembling was not a great look.
What was it, in the mid 30s? It’s not like his hands were in his pockets all day.

I didn’t catch the trembling. I’ll look for it.

For all the crap CJF took after OSU…and I have thought he tightens up in big games…I think a loss today would have been far worse.

I’m happy and relieved by the outcome, but I’m especially happy for Coach. He needed this.

The trembling wasn't my main concern, it was the fact that he's involved in the play calling at all. There's been questions about odd play calling in critical situations and I think it's a bad sign that he doesn't trust his offensive coordinator. Would be interesting to know if Franklin is getting involved because of that questionable play calling or if he's been involved all year.

I will say it was great to see Franklin trying to win the game instead of playing conservatively again.

You don’t even know if he is getting involved at all, but don’t let that stop you.

How the hell did they lose to UNC?

Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and OSU have all shown they are fallible. When PSU beats one of those teams and/or Oregon in the post season I will become a believer. I would even look past a loss to Maryland and just chuck it up to "not getting up for a game" when you think you are so much better.

Until then we have not demonstrated the potential for a high level of play.

I'll add my congratulations to Franklin for "playing not to lose" in today's game, but if that fake punt fails and we lose it would have been worse than the OSU fallout. Franklin did not take a chance with a defense that obviously has some holes and weaknesses. The fake punt was in his judgment the better risk. This time it was the right call.

I don't have the same confidence in our defense as many of the posters here. Privately, Franklin might have the same view. When you give up so many 3rd and longs that it almost becomes expected it's not a sign of strength. We can see what individual players are doing. Others are carrying the load.

Everyone has proven to be beatable. We’re darn close to being ranked #1. Should have beaten OSU, who should have beaten Oregon. I’m not saying we’re great, but nobody else is either.

We survived a road game against a team most of us, I think, were nervous about all year. I, for one, will enjoy this one.
