Fuente out at Va. Tech.....

He was pretty putrid there and it was pretty much expected.
Yea he was pretty bad. I thought they would wait to the end of the year though but I guess just rip that bandaid and scab off now and start over.
When do we play them again?

The series was cancelled with them. Was looking forward that. We were able to re-schedule Nevada and San Jose State from 2020 but not VT.

Kind of another example of a guy (Fuente)that followed the guy that built the program but stayed too long (Beamer) and that guy (Fuente) just can’t live up to expectations.
I’m the end, he couldn’t get the best players here in Va to stay in Va or go to Tech. UVA has actually surpassed them imho…which was not easy to do. They have to make a big hire to become relevant again.

Weird year with all these coached being fired mid-season. Seems like 1/2 dozen already or more.

Was thinking the same thing.
I hope we are able to retain everyone. IMO the carousel of offensive coaches over the last 3 years is part of our current problem.

Agreed! I'm not a fire the coach kinda guy and my post is not to say fire Franklin. However if you buy a car and have to keep replacing major parts because it is not running right, maybe you need to look at the driver...

This is like a sunk cost bias. You make an investment, it's not working out as hoped for, you keep adding to the investment because you can't admit to the initial mistake, until you've poured so much good money into bad that you finally give up in despair. Now the program is so invested in Franklin that people are paralyzed with the fear he will go somewhere and succeed or stay here and fail. The investment has already been made. Hope and fear don't pay dividends while you wait. I hope Franklin succeeds. I fear that he won't.

Agreed. the article I read said that they negotiated a payout against the $10m (?) he had left on his contract. It probably gives him the ability to take another coaching job and saves VT a few bucks ($2m is what I heard)

This situation very much mirrors us in many ways. Early success, failing offense, QB development, late game losses, etc.
