Have been up to PSU on several occasions this summer to watch some of the workouts and have talked to the coaches. One name that continues to get overlooked in future potential line-ups is Luke Gardner. He was there all summer training and is roommates with Mark Hall. All of the coaches seem to be very high on him as a sleeper and that they expect big things from him at 141 over the next few years. I immediately asked about Nick Lee was told the plan is he will red shirt next year and take over for Zain at 149. Heard that Nick is really growing and that 149 will be his college weight.

That's a huge jump for someone who's best finish was 5th at states to then crack the lineup in the future of the best collegiate wrestling team in the nation. I wish him well.

Don't know a thing about Luke or what he did in High School can oly tell you what I was told and what I saw. The last time I was there he was in Live match with Gary Dinmore and it was not close. So maybe the jump to college won't be that bad for him.

That's a also a huge weight jump for Nick Lee who will likely wrestle 132 in HS this year

Hmm, he wrestled 132 this past season so I would expect him to move up to 138 if he is still growing. Also, that is NOT a huge weight jump. DT wrestled 135 his senior year in HS and then 157 after a redshirt year. Matt Kyler wrestled 119 as a senior in HS and 141 as a TRUE frosh. There are plenty of other examples. Fact is, the growth pattern of every kid is different. Some actually wrestle a lower weight class in college than they wrestled their senior year in HS. J'den Cox is a great example.

Mike Evans is not impressed with you forgetting about him. Im sure if he was to speak for himself he would agree with the premise of your post as do I.

sometimes is best to paint with a smaller brush even on the internet.

The word in Indiana is that Nick Lee will complete his HS requirements for Mater Dei HS online while working out at the NLWC. Two sources claim that he does not want to redshirt. Another source (???) claims that his parents purchased a home in Pennsylvania. Nick does not duck competition, but rather seeks out the stiffest competition, realizing that this is the road to reaching one’s fullest potential. Nick’s match with Chad Red in the Indiana state finals was a good example of this. I suspect that we will see some very good things from Nick in the years to come.

Selfishly, I'd love to see Joe Lee compete in PA to finish out HS career. If that's possible?

Wow, I guess the Lee family is all in. After a year training at the NLWC, Nick could step right in at 141 and have an immediate impact. Considering that is the only weight class that will need to be replaced and Hall will be hitting the lineup, this could be a tremendous team.

I agree, but I have to assume there's a chance that Suriano and/or Cortez move up for 17-18. Either way it sounds like we need one more wrestler in the bottom 4 weights post Zain, in the year before Busiello arrives.

Agree, light weights a big recruiting priority going forward although I keep hearing Suriano is a career 125 which should help some. Fix sure would fit in nicely, hopefully Cael worked some magic during the recent home visit.

Ames is always coming through with the info! And, he's one of the guys where if he says it you can take it to the bank.

I, too, would LOVE to see Joe Lee compete in PA. I guess we'll have to wait and see if they actually move to PA if the did indeed buy a house here.

If Joe Lee moves to PA and stays at 152, that puts him on a collision course with Cam Coy. If he drops to 145, Jarod Verkleeren. Either way, wow.

Is Joe going to compete in PA? Someone on the Indiana boards stated that school is already back in for the year and although Nick wasn't there for the first week, Joe was. Probably doesn't mean much and I kinda feel like a creeper even discussing a highschool kid and his whereabouts but I'd guess if the family didn't relocate he would be required to start school unless he's doing a cyber type education like his brother. Maybe he ends up in PA when schools are back in here. Or maybe not...

Will Joe be considered as 'from Pennsylvania' now?

Ha, good question. Or will he get the asterisk-ish citations that DT & Nickal never got (...'from Wyoming by way of OH/TX..'). Where's Manville 'from' these days?

Mason is from Virginia. His father is the coach of the VA State youth traveling team with Carson and Pierson, who are Mason's younger brothers. You will hear about them soon enough, if you haven't already.

Thanks, tjb! Do they still hail from the Lorton area of VA? I live right up the road and would love to go see them wrestle this Winter. Do you know where I need to go to do that? tia,

Nick Lee is not competing in high school for Mater Dei, Indiana this season. He is training full time at Nittany Lion Wrestling Club.
Im curious how this works. He's a highschool kid. If he's in PA training full time where would he be staying? What'd they do, get the kid an apartment or something? And since he's here, is he eligible for instate tuition rates next year when he enters PSU? If so, I can't wait to hear the bellyaching from Iowa fans when they pick up on that one. Lol. Same deal with Joe if he and the parents move in.

OSU practically invented the concept.

Unless the parents move to State College or he has relatives nearby, he'll need to get an apartment. He can't go into the dorms without enrolling. (Presuming he doesn't
want to sleep in his car.)

If his parents stay in Indiana, then he cannot qualify for resident tuition next year unless he can prove they're not paying his bills.

The parents can pay his bills, they just can't claim him as a tax dependent. Medical insurance will most likely have to be purchased (not sure, but I think so). Obama care?

The savings on tuition is a heck of a lot more than the tax deduction and med insurance.

The first thing I thought of when they said the family bought a home in PA was they bought a house in the State College area as a place for Nick to live. Many have done this as an investment. You rent out the extra rooms to other students and it comes out cheaper than paying for dorms or an apartment, plus you've got a rental property you can either keep or sell.

I know many HS students and several college students for that matter that I wouldnt trust to sit supervised on my deck.

JP, I'm not sure exactly in VA, but I do not think they moved recently. I get to see both boys every year on our campus right after Thanksgiving for our annual National Dual Tournament at Malvern and several times afterwards. It's one of the top youth dual meets (8th grade and under) in the Northeast every year behind McDonogh (late January), VA Duals (Mid-December in VA Beach) and Wildwood Duals (Early Feb). Mason was also in our room numerous times this past season.

When they come up, are they wrestling as The Bandits? I found their club site (http://banditswrestling.com/contact-us/), that lists their dad as the Developmental Coach for their teams that compete in the Capital Area Wrestling League (http://www.cawlwrestling.com/teams/teams.asp). I can't find much on them on the South County or Robinson HS teams, the most likely local HS squads for Lorton. Guessing they might not even compete for a local HS, only for the club team.

JP, that is correct.

They are not in HS yet, I believe Carson is entering 8th grade and Pierson I'm guessing 6th.

dicemen99, Carson is indeed an 8th grader and Pierson is either 5th or 6th. I think you are right with 6th grade though.

Ok, then. That helps, thanks! I'll see if I can find a Bandits dual sometime this Winter then.
