Football GAME THREAD: Penn State vs. Auburn

Very happy with todays game. Our blocking schemes seem to be really effective. But there is one glaring weakness on our OL. RT is a mess. Cadan Wallace is as bad as I’ve ever seen him. He gets beat constantly pass blocking. He is by far and away the worst starting player.

Dork? I told everyone Purdue wasn't good and would struggle even with their weak schedule. We're the only ranked team on their schedule. But they're "a quality team"
3 pt spread vs purdue, won by 4. 3.5 pt spread vs Auburn, won by 29. Stop telling me what we "should " do. You have no idea.

Spreads are meaningless--it's based on where the money is going
As the CBS crew said after the game, "on paper this is what we should have expected"--everyone wants to overanalyze things because of their opinion of Franklin. We are a far superior team to Auburn and Purdue.

Reading and posting in game day threads used to be enjoyable, interesting, and educational and I am taking that observation from the Plotit days onward. However when one poster wants to dominate every conversation and argue with anyone who has a differing opinion in a dismissive insulting way over, and over, and over again for weeks in a row it becomes tedious to read the thread. So, why don’t we all just choose avoid reading his threads , or at least resist responding to them. I have learned, at some point in my 70+ years, that engaging in a pissing match with someone who shows distain and disrespect for common courtesy is an absurd waste of time and effort. If we do not respond to him, there will be less posts from him and he can just piss into the wind by himself.

Personally, I am supremely happy about how the season has unfolded, including Purdue. And now we just went down south and demonstrated better scheme and far better athletes than the mighty SEC. This is going to be a special year.
I am happy as well. I'm admittedly not a big fan of JF as a coach. I didnt think it was going to be a good year. I said in one of the preseason threads that I hope he proves me wrong, and so far he has.

I really thought they would lose this game or at least be in a dog fight to the end. To be that dominant in their home turf is impressive to me. The defense especially has really stepped up the pressure it seems. Outside of those long 3rd down conversions, they seemed to play really well.

It's great to see Singleton and Allen running. So far they are everything I hoped we would get out of Cain and the others, but it never came to be. If Singleton can turn that corner and burn OSU and Mich DBs, I'll gladly eat crow questioning his speed. I like mine brined and grilled.

I stayed out of the thread during the game because of him, then he kept up his annoying posts afterwards, so I put him on ignore. He’s no PSU fan no matter how many times he claims he is….and if he is, we’d be better off without fans like him.

Franklin as the CEO head coach with competent assistants wins a lot of games (2016-2019) because he sets the right culture and recruits very well. Forget the pandemic years - it’s not fair to judge him based on all of the nonsense and quite frankly bad luck associated with the pandemic. We are marching forward. It is refreshing to see how he is now learning from his mistakes by getting the backup qbs more reps and fixing the run blocking schemes.

Yep. Starting next game he goes on ignore on game day and day after. Maybe permanently.

Again, today is about expectations. People here don't have high enough expectations for this team. Even after the game on CBS they said "on paper" this is what should have happened but they went against that and thought it would be close. Auburn never had a shot in this game if we were prepared. We were and took care of business. Kudos to all involved.
"On paper", Auburn has recruited better than us over the past four years. So, by your reasoning, they should have crushed us.

Opening spread is not meaningless. Adjustments to that opening spread ARE driven by money.

But the opening spread is an actual attempt to assess the team's relative strength.

I can't agree with the "forget the pandemic years".

No coach in college football treated Covid as more of a threat than Franklin. No smart person ever thought Covid was a threat to healthy 22 year olds. Not one.

So, the impact that Covid had on PSU was likely more than at other schools.

And that's entirely on Franklin (and perhaps some on that moron Sandy).

That said, yesterday was as good as I've seen us look against a quality opponent in a long, long time.

The game threads are entertaining for many reasons, to include the instant negativity the minute one thing goes wrong.

One thing I'll say for Lando: he's getting pummelled right and left but keeps stepping to the plate for more. The man takes one line and by gum, come hell or high water, he sticks to it.

That said, yes, his act is getting old: first Purdue was no good....now Auburn is no good. So of course we beat them not because we're good but because they're bad. Which is bullshit.

Still, I'm not gonna put him on Ignore. An alternative is simply choose not to respond to a guy saying the same thing over and over.

I don’t use the ignore button often, but the threads are just so much more enjoyable without having to wade through the incessant back and forth posts between him and others all fueled by his pigheaded stupidity.

How about when he attempted to claim the late-hit OB wasn't a late hit when the 2nd Auburn player in (#8) didn't make any contact with PSU runner until he was 5 yards beyond the OB stripe??? That's not being pigheaded - that's being a troll. The fact that he is clearly a "poser" troll (i.e., attempting to claim he is a PSU fan while he pulls his troll bs) tells you everything you need to know about this pathetic loser.

That is not fair at all or perhaps you are forgetting the other details. Obviously we all remember the B1G mishandling the pandemic and the weird shortened season that resulted from that. On top of that Franklin was mentally dealing with being separated from his family in 2020 due to the risk of his daughter, who has sickle cell disease, contracting Covid. Additionally we had a new OC in Ciarrocca, who for better or worse could not properly install his offense due to the pandemic shutdown resulting in a playground style of football in 2020. We them hired a better OC in MY for 2021 and again that transition takes time. We also lost Journey Brown in 2020 and Parsons decided to sit out that first pandemic year. I give Franklin a pass for 2020 and 2021.

I think that people will find a reason to believe what they want to believe.

There's no reason Franklin could not have let the assistants work FULLY with the team during Covid.

It's just poor judgment that he did not. Admittedly, the clowns that are our gubmint and our jurnlism majors did not help.

But even midwitty people knew very early on that the whole "healthy young people harmed by Covid meme" was just nonsense. Hell, they even had to pretend some fat kid at UCAL PA was still on the football team.

That's on Franklin.

The team is 3-0 with two road wins. That alone is cause for celebration. Maybe it was what some expected, but it’s okay to be happy with fulfilling expectations!

They haven't though as CBS even stated and I stated earlier this week when I said we'd win easily. All you have to do is look at the rosters.

The opening spread is set to try to split the betting not based on team's relative strength. They review historical bets as well. The SEC is always going to get money thrown on them against the Big Ten and everyone else because it's the SEC. Just breakdown the rosters.

But, is Purdue good or did they lose to Syracuse as I predicted?
Do you think Auburn wins more than 6 games this year?
They way we played yesterday is how a legit top 10-12 team plays against a team like Auburn this year. It was what needed to be done. They did a great job. The coaching staff, the players, everyone. Let's hope that continues the next two weeks then we get the 3 games that should be the only 3 on the schedule that are concerning.
I understand that people are annoyed that I force them to deal with the reality of the situation. Apparently that's frowned upon for some reason

247 Recruiting Rankings

Auburn PSU

2019 11 12

2020 7 15

2021 19 21

2022 21 6
Look at who has left please--remember when Harsin arrived.
I can't believe anyone is even trying to compare the rosters right now
Again, even CBS said after "on paper we should have seen this" duh

The answer is for all here to put him on "ignore" and not see or respond to his posts. He'll be arguing with himself and the rest of the posters can keep the discussions civilized and reasonable. That's what I just did after coming back today and skimming through this mess.....

Purdue is indeed good...and did lose to Syracuse...because...<wait for it>...Syracuse is also good.

I have no idea how many wins Auburn will get this year, but they're a blue-blood SEC team, and we blew them out in their stadium.

In any case, I'm glad you have suddenly decided we're a "legit top-10 team." That assessment appears to differ from the one you were offering just a few days ago.

Therefore, it appears you're the one who's been forced to deal with the "reality of the situation," which is that we're good...and you're wrong.

lol at Syracuse being good--Syracuse doesn't have a QB. See what their record is at the end of year.

I've said all along we were a top 10-12 team based on talent. Only coaching can prevent that.

What happened yesterday was a good thing. It's what was supposed to happen. It's weird people are angry I expect to easily beat an SEC team that FPI doesn't predict to be bowl eligible this year. It's like being happy about destroying Nebraska. Being a blue blood doesn't matter. It's not the 80s.

I wonder how much of it though was from people above him. We’ve seen that admin at Penn State has made some terrible decisions regarding Covid and vaccines and masks and I’m sure sandy wanted them
