Football GAME THREAD: Penn State vs. Auburn

Again, today is about expectations. People here don't have high enough expectations for this team. Even after the game on CBS they said "on paper" this is what should have happened but they went against that and thought it would be close. Auburn never had a shot in this game if we were prepared. We were and took care of business. Kudos to all involved.

Would it? They barely beat SJSU. Syracuse beat Purdue who we struggled with yet we killed Auburn. Auburn doesn't have a QB. It would be a long year for them in the Sun Belt.
Franklin did not do a good enough job the last two years. You know, I know it and he knows it.
Yes it would, for sure. I refuse to continue arguing with you. Anyone that comes on to a message board of the team he’s supposedly a fan of just to argue with everyone, is not worth dealing with. Just let us know when it’s okay to be happy about a win. We would all appreciate not wasting time being happy about wins against teams you decide aren’t worth it.

I'll be happy when we beat Michigan or Ohio State
And I already said I can see why people would be happy about this win because we did what we were supposed to do as opposed to Purdue when we escaped.
Be happy about anything you want--just don't expect people that haven't lowered their standards to share that thought
That Purdue game was not acceptable at all. And again we all know it.

It’s funny that according to him almost any team we play we should beat because we have more talent than them (based solely on recruiting rankings), but other teams that have a lot of talent like ND are terrible also. Not sure how that works.
If you go back and look at the recruiting rankins from 2019 thru 2022 I believe Auburn's recruiting is pretty comparible to PSU. But PSU sure looked to be more talented in today's game. Better player evaluation by Franklin and his staff?

PSU: 14,17, 21, 8, for an average of 15th
Auburn: 13,8,18,21, for an average of 15th

But with all the transfers in today's college football roster management including filling in weaknesses via the portal seems to be the X factor.

No we don’t, but again you decided what everyone knows and should feel.

Exactly….Auburn has some players. After Bama, GA and Ohio State, there are a bunch of teams with similar talent so a win against any of those teams is a good win. I’m still not sold that a fourth year three star is worse than a first year four star.

If you want to be "happy" or "satisified" with beating a Purdue team late (the same Purdue team that lost today to Syracuse) then you don't have high enough standards. Compare the talent on those rosters. It's not close. Just like it wasn't close today. Today is what we should have done to Purdue

Yep, and we could go back to the 2018 class or even the 2017 class as there are 6th year players. But by and large the best players from those classes are long gone.

But we do know that legit 5 star players, if a team can get them, do make big impacts from the day they step on the field......

You act like you know so much about football, but apparently you don’t. If you don’t realize that playing a conference game in the season opener is different than a game in week 3 after the team has already lost, then I don’t know what to tell you. Also, if you were such a football expert you would know how one team does against another team means nothing to how they do against your team.

Personally, I am supremely happy about how the season has unfolded, including Purdue. And now we just went down south and demonstrated better scheme and far better athletes than the mighty SEC. This is going to be a special year.

We have superior talent and how we played against Purdue was not acceptable. We escaped that's great but let's stop pretending it's a quality win. It wasn't it.
And, yes, you're correct Just because we beat Auburn doesn't mean that we'd beat anyone else they beat. I get it. But that doesn't alter Purdue isn't a very good team. They may win 8 games because the west sucks but that's not a good team outside Jones who couldn't even get on the field at Iowa
Like right now--if I'm an Ohio State fan I'm not at all happy with their defense
You don't have high enough expectations for us. I said all week we'd win this easily--we did. As we should have. Same thing should be for the next two games.
Do you think Auburn has a good enough QB to win games against quality P5 opponents?

I hope it is--there's potential. It should be at least 9 wins with the 3 games against Michigan/Minnesota/Ohio State defining the season. It's disappointing that Minnesota in the middle of those 2.

I am going up for Minny. Hopefully we are undefeated at that point.

It was the first game of the season….good lord. Find another team.

Abdul Carter led the team in tackles, had a sack and forced a fumble. As I wrote in a post before the game, this young man needs to be on the field the majority of the time and NOT at the expense of Curtis Jacobs. It's on the coaches to figure out how to do that, but it needs to happen.

WE ARE!!!

What does the first game of the season have to do with anything especially with a 6th year senior QB
See what Georgia did to Oregon

Alabama needed a last second FG to beat UT @UT - who they were favored to beat by 25. So let me guess, Bama shouldn't be ranked where they are according to you? These types of games happen all the time contrary to your absurd bloviating on the topic.

I don't understand why Zach Calzada, the A&M transfer to Auburn is not their starting QB? Is he hurt?

And do you think Bama wins were "happy" they beat Texas? That game raised tons of concerns about Bama and solidified Georgia as the team to beat this year. Bama dodged a bullet, like we did, and hopefully they learn from it or they won't be at the level they want. Of course, they want to win titles and our fans--don't.

I fear UM more than OSU at this point.
We'll move the ball against OSU IMO but I'm worried about their offense
Michigan will be 6-0 when we play them and we still won't know anything about them with Maryland Iowa and Indiana coming up

As far as I know I think they just determined he was third after the spring. I haven't seen anything reported about him being injured. They went big in the portal and came up 0-3.

3-0 too bad for you

Stick your high standards where the sun doesn't shine. WTF is the value of a fanboy who boasts that he has high standards? Answer......zilch

I'm sorry so many of you no longer expect to win games.

That's what we need.....fans that want to win......LOL

That expect to win. Everyone wants to win.
Our fan base would rather attack other programs for not doing things "the right way" then actually win
The fact grown men on this board say "scUM" and "O$U" is telling

Sanders and Brown were both All-American caliber. Pretty staggering to understand that Barkley, Sanders, Brown and Singleton are all PA Products - I guess PA produces more talent than some of the know-it-all loudmouths claim.
Good to point that out! I live in SC and have to hear about the dominance of the SEC. ACC fans are obnoxious as well. The only time I liked OSU was the they destroyed Clemson!

You know nothing about grown men.
The fact that you think fan expectations have anything to do with game results.....is perhaps one of the most bizzare things I've ever heard.

Injuries, other factors, etc....never look ahead
Right now Sparty is getting beaten by UW.
Northwestern lost to SIU today and our other game before Michigan is Central Michigan. If we lose either there's major problems
Also, Michigan State "warmed up" by playing 2 MAC teams. Someday coaches might realize that's not a great idea. Hopefully the expanded playoff helps with that.

Expectations have nothing to do with game results but it allows teams to keep coaches longer than they should because there's no pressure
Again, we're 3-0 as we should be. The Purdue game was way too close. We did what we should have done the last two weeks. There's nothing to complain about. They need to take care of their next two scrimmages then we'll see how good we are.
