Gary Steen

When Spencer Lee and Mark Hall talked about a coach negatively recruiting, we can make a pretty good guess who that was.

The thing is though, his wrestlers always comport themselves with class. I will always give him that.

And his wrestlers tend to have high praise for him. So TaTo must be doing plenty of things right. Unfortunate that he seems to lack some self-awareness, at least on the public stage.

Not always.

I like that he says he has "honest elite coaches". Well we know he is not honest, and the " elite" aspect is suspect as most of his elite senior level wrestler engage left the RTC.

For as much of a badass physically that Ryan must be, it’s amazing what a beta he is vis-à-vis Cael. His actions just scream insecurity and weakness

Was watching Willie's show today and he brought the tantom tweet up and stated that he (Willie) posted a dumb tweet after that basically said "shots fired at Cael" and he admittedly took it down pretty quickly bc he did not want Cael to think he was agreeing with Ryan. He did say that minutes after he posted his tweet Gary's father responded to Willie with a screen shot of Gary's NLI status and it shows that he signed on 11-11-2021 and asked for his release on 12-18-2021 and was granted it. TanTom is getting some bad info as usual.

RMG, great post. I think you ment 11-11-20 and 12-18-20. You are probably like me and want to get 2020 and 2021 past us.

Thanks for the update and adding clarity. I have yet to follow Willie in his show.

Man, I'd love to see that Father Mark Steen tweet, if any yinz have more effort than I on such an endeavor (pls?)

Building off that intel... so Keith Gavin willingly released Steen from the NLI, after one month. I wonder what Tom Ryan would've done? "Not how he would've handled it"?

I'm coming from the same place nitlion is above. Ryan has grown on me. I'm still deeply impacted by memories of him deftly, candidly and... heartfeltedly(?) answering a barrage of questions about his deceased son, indelicately put to him by WINMag's Mike Finn at the 2015 Nationals. Around serious issues like loss and death and faith, he is as genuine as they come, and I have mad respect for him for it. Like guys who wrestle for him really seem to as well.

But the petty shit he so consistently through the years can't seem to grow out of really, really puts stress on those other infinitely positive aspects. I mean, I guess we have to give him credit for consistency? On social, my man definitely embodies Chosen Suffering.

Good post I agree.

Ryan really does seem like a very good man, with some flaws like us all. Every parent can sympothetic with his horrible tragedy. His wrestlers have always carried themselves with class, in both victory and defeat as well.

He is accomplished and extremely competitive, and this is where his blind spot may be. When you think of the talent he had assembled only to lose one again to Cael must drive him crazy. His crowning achievement over the past decade came during a PSU punt year.

It is sad that he thinks PSU must cheat to acheive what they have. The reality for all (incl HR) is that Cael is indeed the best wrestler and best coach of his era, he doesn't cheat. Cael has more integrity than any coach on any sport I have ever observed. There can only be one number one, and Cael is the unquestioned number one. It is even sadder that Ryan's worst thoughts, out of sheer frustration, are shared publicly from time to time. He belittles himself, and he should rise above petty accusations, and remain proud of what he has accomplished in his own right.

Jtothemfp - now to the important part. Did you really use "infinitely positive" in your close innocently? Good one.

Ha, not sure how innocent I'd claim that usage to be.

I like your points about how Ryan's competitiveness might contribute to the petty behavior.
