Good-natured ribbing aside, I've always found it peculiar that the emblem of Iowa wrestling's greatness is their legendary Coach Gable bronzified while motioning for the ref to call stalling. Not Gable in some encouraging or celebratory pose willing his wrestlers to greatness or acknowledging some great feat. But instead, Iowa chose to immortalize Gable intently focused on penalizing an opponent and looking for a win on a stalling call. Seems strange to me.
Why strange? Paraphrasing former Hawkeye and current Buckeye coach Tom Ryan, for a quarter century that's how they handled it.
