I've been to all home games this year, and after a long wonderful season, I'm relaxing at home nursing a Powers Signature Irish Whiskey and sharing in the sense of accomplishment of Penn State football, whose coaches and players I am quietly toasting. I had almost forgotten how a great football program enhances the psyche of those of us loyal fans who identify closely with the team and university it represents. I couldn't be prouder or more encouraged. I've been a fan for 50 years and for the past 20 or so have made the travel, hotel stay, and financial commitment to place my scrawny butt into the same bleacher seats I view as mine. My health isn't the best at this point and sometimes this can be a bit of an endurance test, especially when challenged by the elements of bad weather. But this is where I want to be on Saturday afternoons and I'm not sure when I've enjoyed a season more than this one. I don't really care where the rankings come out or what all the talking heads or misinformed press squalk about. They are playing their own game, and the only one I choose to watch is the one on the field. So Cheers to the coaches and gritty players who have proven against all odds that they are back among the elite of college football, whether they win or lose in their next two games, wherever they might be. And a quiet toast to JVP as well for laying the groundwork for a program that was never going to be held down. We are Penn State. Cheers!
