Head Scratching Decisons 2016-17

Ranking OK ST #1 for 99% of the season.

Using computers to rank OK ST #1
Not using computers and ranking OK ST #1

I know right. There was no explainable reason why Intermat had OSU ranked ahead of PSU at the end of the regular season.

There was no "good" reason to rank them #1 at the beginning of the year either. I have heard the explanations as to why it was done but they just weren't any good.

They were damn good at the BEGINNING of the year, but they all looked like skeletons at the END of the year. Hmmmm, wonder why........

I hope they rank us low again next year - Really, who gives a frog's fat ass what the rankers do.
If anything, it takes pressure off of everyone to perform, puts us in the underdog role which has benefits, and gives the other teams and their loving fans "hope".

Agreed.

Hey, before all the weight pulling saps them in late March, they ARE much better in November.

But that unit was NEVER better than Penn State and those rankings were shameful, as what was proven in St Louis.

I have scratched my head 183 times since TR Foley promised by Tweet to respond to Flo's article about Olympic reffing corruption, for those of you who like to keep track of that sort of thing.
I scratched my head when he said about people being safer in Iran than in Iowa.

No, that's not true. If I scratched my head at every inane thing he said, I'd be eroded at least to the ribcage by now.

The safer in Iran than Iowa comment will always stick in my craw.

FLO deciding that Smalls doesn't need to be at Fargo, or Super 32, or Ironman because they couldn't find another warm body to cover organized animal abuse for them.

Willie - You're killin' me Smalls... "Dipping" on huge events like these instead of augmenting them with your commentary, either live or fully prepared to discuss with CP on FRL. Slacker. No Budweiser for you.

Martin - Per FRL 192, I owe FLO an apology. Willie only missed one of those events due to Rodeo assignments. Sorry for the false accusation.

However, I maintain that Rodeo is animal abuse. Nothing like lassoing a 3-month old calf by the neck and using the weight of a full grown horse to choke them to a dead stop, while Bubba Truck Nutz jumps down and body slams the calf before hog-tying the poor thing. That is cruel, Martin.

Yeah, the calf's PTSD will probably lower it's college board scores. It might not get into Iowa. The horror.

... And gives us all something to chuckle about after the fact :)

It's a real head scratcher how Ohio State peaked for the B1G's, but faded during Nationals.

You might way they were not "peaking" at the end of the season.

Ha, nice pull. Man, that dual had some upsets! Check out the fun box score:

125: #4 Matt McDonough dec. #12 Brad Pataky, 7-2 (3-0 Iowa)
133: #6 Dan Dennis maj dec. Bryan Pearsall, 17-7 (7-0 Iowa)
141: Adam Lynch dec. #5 Montell Marion, 8-6 (OT) (7-3 Iowa)
149: #1 Brent Metcalf PIN #5 Frank Molinaro (3:56) (13-3 Iowa)
157: Jake Kerr dec. #5 Cyler Sanderson, 4-2 (16-3 Iowa)
165: #5 Ryan Morningstar dec. #8 Dan Vallimont, 2-0 (19-3 Iowa)
174: #2 Jay Borschel maj dec Justin Ortega, 14-2 (23-3 Iowa)
184: #13 David Erwin dec. #7 Phil Keddy, 6-4 (23-6 Iowa)
197: Luke Lofthouse dec. Clay Steadman, 5-2 (26-6 Iowa)
Hwt: #9 Dan Erekson dec. #11 Cameron Wade, 6-1 (29-6 Iowa)

Lynch over Marion; Kerr over Cyler. I'd also forgotten that David Erwin was flirting with the Top-10 back in those days.

Molinaro in the Metcalf Era was pretty similar to what we're seeing now with Sorenson & Micah in the zPain Era and probably Kemerer in the Nolf Era. I love teaching my kids about the Badass Number 2-3-4-5 dudes who just get rocked by the #1s.
