Yeah, Howard will not improve even though he will get a full year of actual practice and working out in the room rather than going 2-2 after a limited practice/workout schedule post shoulder surgery, where his 2 losses were to the 3rd and 5th place finishers.
Don’t forget he was also coming off of covid..
and yep everyone will improve with a full year of practice.. just saying 125 will be even more loaded next year.

Oh, was everyone not able to lift and drill because they were rehabbing a surgically repaired shoulder? If so than my bad and I agree with you.

....neither got close to AA'ing just as I predicted. Ditto Baby Brands - predicted mid-season that he would come nowhere near AA'ing (and that he wouldn't even reach Blood Round) and that he was wildly over-rated. Forget about how insanely high he was ranked after he beat Venz, but he went into NCAAs as the 12th Seed despite having all kinds of losses on his resume!

Part of the problem with the NCAA seedings at both these weights (125 & 184) was not only that some individuals from B1G (actually, individuals for certain teams) were wildly overated, but the B1G as a whole was wildly overated as a Conference at several weights relative to the rest of the nation. Again, not just 125 and 184, but 149 is another that comes to mind (complete joke that Murin was a 12-seed with a 6-5 record -- Murin shouldn't have even been at NCAAs after going 0-2 and placing tied for last at B1G Championship!, let alone being as high as a 12-seed). Brands was a 12-seed at 184 despite having an 8-6 record going into NCAAs! Joke!

Nice job of cherry picking a few kids who wrestled under seed, then extrapolating it to the entire conference.

What about?
McKee (Minn) was a 15 seed, he finished 3rd.
Duncan (Ill) was a 14 seed, he finished 5th
C Amine was an 11 seed, he finished 7th.
Turley (Rut) was 26 seed, he finished 8th
Beard was a 15 seed, he finished 7th
Orndorff was a 21 seed, he finished 8th.

Overall the Big Ten finished with more AAs than they were given top-8 seeds.

The team that was most over-ranked was probably Missouri. They brought all 10 wrestlers, 9 of them were given a top-11 seed, they finished with only 3 AAs.

The NCAA Championships are crazy every year, with the upsets and surprises. Overall, another exciting tourney.

-- Twenty-two top-8 seeds did not AA, if my research is correct. That's 22 of 80, or 27%. Of those 22, there were 1-#1 seed, 1-#2 seed, 2-#3 seeds, 1-#4 seed, 4-#5 seeds, 5-#6 seeds, 4-#7 seeds, and 4-#8 seeds.

-- The 22 that replaced them as AA's were the following seeds; 2-#9 seeds, 3-#10 seeds, 3-#11 seeds, 1-#12 seed, 2-#14 seeds, 3-#15 seeds, 2-#17 seeds, 1-#19 seed, 1-#21 seed, 1-#25 seed, 2-#26 seeds, and a #33 seed. Imagine that, 5 wrestlers seeded 21st or higher AA'd!

I'm sorry to have to ask, but are you actually a Pat Mineo burner account?

If anyone ever wanted to argue that 2021 was a normal tournament, this would be Exhibit A.

Maybe I'm missing something, but you state that 20 top-8 seeds did not AA, then proceed to list 16 by seed. So something appears amiss.

Don't intend to be critical, just seek to understand ...

I'll check.

CJF is wrong. But was he overrated or underrated?

Vizzini could debate himself on that for quite some time.

“Now, a wrong man should have his rating lowered for being wrong, so he must have been overrated. But we knew he was a great fool; we would have counted on it; and we must have already rated him very low. Just by having a pulse he should be higher than the low rating, so he must have been underrated. On the other hand, when he’s wrong but doesn’t admit he’s wrong, we probably ...” :)

Missouri is consistently over ranked EVERY single year..... makes no sense and it keeps happening

Their schedule gets them ranked.

Their staff gets them ready for nationals.

The coaching interns take care of the rest.

Thank you, very thorough, as usual.

Another way to parse the data:
  • 35 of 40 (87.5%) of seeds 1 thru 4 went on to AA
  • 23 of 40 (57.5%) of seeds 5 thru 8 went on to AA
That's maybe a bigger difference than I might have expected??
