Don't near all NFL players suffer from this? 110 out of 111 studied. Perhaps that is not a significant correlation.
Tragic.
Every brain they studied was from an individual who was showing symptoms.
Hernandez' death is no tragedy.
Are you sure it wasn't Sevin dust?I heard on sports talk radio yesterday that his autopsy showed he had angel dust in his system when he died. It's crazy what can be smuggled into prisons.
I understand that..... and don't think that fact lessens the tragedy....

So how does this explain all his violent "gang-associated" criminal behavior as a minor in CT before he ever arrived at Florida or the Patriots (or his distributing pictures via mobile phone media brandishing guns as a "Gang'sta" while at Florida)??? Certainly "CTE" does not explain his propensity for crime, violent crime and to get in trouble as a teenager? I sense some PC bull$hit to use a CTE diagnosis as an overly broad explanation for lack of personal accountability for one's own behavior. Trying to make Hernandez into a "victim" here when his criminal "gang life" began as a teenager is a huge stretch imho.
Yes it was. As was a substantial portion of his life. From the accounts, prior to UF he was a nice kid prone to run with the wrong crowd. Became one of the trouble characters at UF, but it was brushed under the rug. And the higher he went with football, the longer his leash. He was a thug. Can't blame it on the CTE, but it likely didn't matters.Hernandez' death is no tragedy.
IMO, arguing that his actions are 100% attributable to CTE is as crazy as arguing his actions are 100% to his prior gangster ties.
From what I understand about CTE, social instability, depression, and impulsive and suicidal behavior are symptoms of the disease. If he had stage 3 CTE, it was likely hard for him to control his impulses and likely contributed to Hernandez's actions.

Plus he probably had a few knocks to the noggin in fights during his pre college gang days that contributed to to his CTE. In the "old days" CTE was called "punch drunk" due to its prevalence in prize fighters.Maybe they contributed to his decision to commit suicide, but I think it is a stretch to claim they were the proximate cause of his violent, criminal behavior as that behavior dates all the way back to his "Juvenile" days in CT.

Like you, I wasn't shedding tears when I heard the news he was convicted or ultimately gone. But the whole thing is a tragedy.
No, it wasn't.
Kindly explain your thoughts to Odin Lloyd's family, I am sure they would be interested to hear your explanation.
Jake LaMotta fought over one hundred professional fights against some of the greatest fighters of all time. Hundreds of rounds and thousands of punches not counting sparring and training. He died last week at 95 and supposedly was sharp as a tack. How come no CTE problems?Anyone else ever had a serious head injury? I was hospitalized for 2 weeks with the entire left side of head caved in. How many of us are living a normal life and could very well be diagnosed with CTE.
Lawyers are on a feeding frenzy with CTE cases!
Some people smoke well into their 80s and never get lung cancer, but smoking still CAUSES LUNG CANCER.Jake LaMotta fought over one hundred professional fights against some of the greatest fighters of all time. True, but my understanding is that even if every single untested brain over the same time frame tested negative, the number of positive results would still be statistically unusually high. CTE is going to be the death of football as we know it. I think it's only a matter of time.Every brain they studied was from an individual who was showing symptoms.
Hernandez was also a thug. I am sympathetic to his Stage 3 CTE diagnosis, but it is not an excuse for being a thug during and before he played football!
He's a murderer. Plenty of thugs don't take someone's life. The word is murderer.Hernandez was also a thug. I am sympathetic to his Stage 3 CTE diagnosis, but it is not an excuse for being a thug during and before he played football!

Exactly. Look at when he took his OWN life. Right after the second murder trial. Then he goes back to his cell, and realizes, "I'm still here....". He took his own life. Remember the victims of his horrific crimes. Don't worry about Hernandez,.He's a murderer. Plenty of thugs don't take someone's life. The word is murderer.
