High School Ref Suspended

Oops, someone just let their emotions get the best of them. It's hard to be objective when you're as emotionally vested in a situation as you clearly are.

It’s silly to be emotionally vested in what’s morally right and what’s morally wrong? Best to just stick to the rules? I mean, when blacks weren’t allowed to compete, that’s just the way it had to be, because rules are never wrong, is that your argument?

Who cares which kid is a better wrestler, if you don’t “follow my rules!” then you better go home?

That’s ridiculous, lol

No real reason to respond; you're perfectly happy putting words in people's mouths to suit your agenda.

Your position is unclear to me: is it more important that the better wrestler wins, or the wrestler with the better haircut/closer shave wins? What is your position?

Somebody conducted the weigh-ins, that same person (people) also saw the hair cover and did not object. Everybody on here who uses the letter of the law arguement to side with the official might want to consider the letter of the rule is the hair piece is addressed at weigh-ins, not immediately prior to the start of the dual with a matside meet and greet, nor at the beginning of the affected individual's match.

This is wrong on multiple levels.

First off all reports are the ref did not see the hair cover at weigh ins. It’s not totally clear how the conversation went, but even the wrestler’s lawyer admitted the ref said he had “concerns” about the hair at weigh ins. My understanding is that the wrestler/coach told the ref they would have the proper cover, but didn’t show it.

Second, even what was linked above does not state what the consequences should be if something isn’t done at weigh ins. It certainly doesn’t say that anything that gets by the pre-meet inspection is legal. In fact it is a technical violation to report to the scorers table with improper equipment, so to me that is meant for addressing things that were not already addressed at weigh ins.

Third, last I checked the rule book also states that at the pre meet inspection that the coach is supposed to verify that all of his wrestlers are properly equipped. Maybe the argument is the hair should have been legal without the cover, but that doesn’t change the fact that the wrestler was sent out with illegal equipment. And that is ultimately the coach’s fault IMO.

This situation is complicated. Depending on a person's angle, and personal biases, I can see where the population will fall on the various sides of this story.

I'm not posting this to keep the rhetoric going, though this article does contain some additional info that may be of interest -- and since it's public domain, thought I'd post. Being forward looking would be the best view, imo, and see the good that has come out of this. Not doing that, and this story could be rehashed forever, none of the sides bending as the conversation again spirals into the gutter. For what it's worth;
