How do we get "casual" Penn State alumni to understand the problem with AA?

This guy is a perfect example. He means well (appears to be active in the Alumni Association), but like hundreds of thousands of other Penn State graduates, he just never stood a chance to process the daily avalanche of #PSUBoT betrayals.

So, my question is this: In 140 characters or less, can anyone explain to this guy that the PSUAA is being used like a puppet to protect the power of the old-guard #PSUBoT at the expense of the entire Penn State community?

RT @JT_Byrde: @RayBlehar Do you even know the mission of the alumni association? The AA can't bring #JoePa back from the dead.RT @RayBlehar: @JT_Byrde I have two goals find the truth and make sure kids get protected. This has nothing to do with football.RT @JT_Byrde: @RayBlehar All the people in your camp ever talk about is joepa. I haven't seen anything in the media other than lubrano shooting his mouth off.RT @wensilver: @JT_Byrde Then you are horribly uniformed. I suggest you read up on Duke Lacrosse & compare media & admin reactions [link].RT @JT_Byrde: @wensilver While you've spent the past 3 years blogging about Sandusky I've been helping dozens of students & young alums launch their career.RT @JT_Byrde: @wensilver I just don't care about the past. I'm busy working on today and tomorrow.RT @JT_Byrde: @wensilver My dad was a PSU football player and huge Paterno fan. When he told me to let it go I did.RT @wensilver: @JT_Byrde Well good for you. I'd love to have someone have my back tho. I'm tired of being called a CHILD RAPE ENABLER.RT @JT_Byrde: @wensilver My boss gave me such a hard time when this all came out like I was the perp myself! But I feel we have to move forward not backRT @wensilver: @JT_Byrde I consider myself pretty vocal - you'll never find me shouting about footballRT @JT_Byrde: @wensilver good. Now if we can just get everyone else to give it up. Lots of people are fans - dad was a player. If he can forget anyone canRT @BessieHyde: @JT_Byrde I will never ever forgot what was doneRT @JT_Byrde: @bessiehyde Then you'll suffer interminably. I can't be negative anymore. Today's students don't even know who joepa was.RT @wensilver: @JT_Byrde So you're okay with Ken Frazier flaming people & the PSU community & then quietly skating away? Alrighty then.RT @JT_Byrde: @wensilver: Never heard of Ken Frazier. I don't pay attention to this stuff I just got interested when i read the Alumni Association was under attack.RT @111victories: @JT_Byrde: sooooo... what is it like to live under a rock? Do you have cell service? Do you get @BigTenNetwork?RT @JT_Byrde: @111victories I work with students and alums almost everyday and help them solve problems. I don't care about football.RT @JT_Byrde: @111victories: PSU is a fine academic and research institution. Not just a dead football coach.

The best way to fight the AA is to stop their money...

and to do that you can either create a separate AA or let students know the AA is garbage when the time comes for them to become life members.

So send postcards to all students at $1 each or email all the students a message letting them know just how worthless the AA lifetime membership is.

can you guys just burn your diplomas and be done w/ it?

Or at least create a separate board for your infighting needs - everyone that cares about your cause knows where to get the info and for the large majority of us its just additional scrolling at this point.

Re: can you guys just burn your diplomas and be done w/ it?

Then don't scroll or read if you don't like it. You found the time to read and post about it.

What a stupid post...

unless someone is sitting beside you with a gun to your head and forced you to open and read this thread, you chose to do it. Asking others to save you from yourself is pretty weak.

Really, no sense wasting your time...

any PSU alum who genuinely believes that Paterno is nothing more to PSU than a "dead football coach" simply cannot be convinced. Let him go. With more than 600,000 living PSU alumni, there are bound to be some like this dolt who simply aren't worth the time.

Only one school can lay claim to having the largest dues-paying Alumni Association in America. That school just so happens to be dear old PSU. That little stat speaks volumes about the quality of our school and the many generations of passionate people who worked so hard to make us who #WeAre.

Would hate to throw out the baby with the bathwater, but maybe it's come to that. It's just such a shame, all around... why can't the 11/8/11 trustees just step down in the name of the greater good? Instead, they've doubled down, daring Harrisburg to intervene. Quite a case study this will be, one day.

Money does talk, soooooooo.....

I am thinking that there is a better strategy when it comes to the $$$$ thing....better, but perhaps very difficult.

If it were possible for us to identify and enlist the support of like-minded big money people who could then use their $$$$ to influence the AA...not just the University....we might make some progress.

This may be an area where not enough has been done by those of us interested in the truth.

try to explain that the "dead football coach" was instrumental in helping PSU become a "fine academic and research institution"---Most think this is mutually exclusive......and he's probably one.--- But who knows, maybe he's just intellectually lazy.

Hey, mental midget dude.......

"your" cause?!?

Who the fvck are you and who's cause are you referring? Last I checked, the people fighting are fighting to correct a wrong and create a stronger and healthier Penn State.

This is everyone's cause - including yours, too!

Re: "Never heard of Ken Frazier"....and this guy want to give advice. *

People never hearing of Ken Frazier was part of the plan. Names of BoT members were conveniently kept out of the news while C/S/S and the university shoulder any and all blame.

I don't know why the BOT, Joe or football need to be brought into this.

The Alumni Association leadership were caught red-handed manipulating the Alumni Council election ballot, in violation of the Association's bylaws. Now they want to change the bylaws so they can continue manipulating who can be on council.
