A lot of those rankings are contrived to fit their necessary means. I wouldn't doubt with as much money as ESPN pays for the broadcast rights that the committee allows them to have some input on the match ups.

This is the EXACT reason they don’t let the rest of the top 25 out for another 3 hours when they show the playoff 4. They have to see what bowls want what teams and how they need to rank them to get to that point.
