How many of our players have opt out

6

  1. Tangelo DT
  2. Ebiketie DE
  3. Dotson WR
  4. Brisker S
  5. Brooks LB
  6. Smith LB
Apparently, OT Rasheed Walker will not play so we will also play a tr Frosh at LT.

Around the same, schools all across the country have seen multiple starters opt out of these bowls. If you aren't in the playoffs, you are more than likely missing 2+ guys at least.
This would be a great place to post the thread by jolaubie "Prichertt stabs Pitt in Back" just for laughs:D:rolleyes:

Was there a report on the premium board that Brown wasn't at practice yesterday?

I believe Arkansas has two out, their leading receiver and leading pass rusher

Yeah, an unproven freshman is gonna save the day and maul BIG defenses. Yeah. Ok.

I wonder if this would be cleaned up at all if schools passed a rule stating that players can only attend the bowl trip if they are on the active roster/potentially playing or RSed?

I see the biletnikof winner played for pitt, and we got 5th round draft picks not playing .Maybe just taking Franklins lead of everything football is about money.

Been away the past week and only tonite am learning just how many players pulled a last second bailout (hey, you wanna walk away, fine.. do it before bowl preparations begin).

Anyway, was watching a game about a week ago and the announcer was doing everything to convince the viewership that these kids CARE about winning... that these games MATTER. He did a good job of it, frankly... but it's apparent that when kids don't want to play in a NY6 game (and playing a team like arkansas is a huge opportunity to prove something about who this team is) that they really don't give a rats ass.

To be fair, some of them do. And those that play will no doubt do their very best. But i can't help thinking that seeing players who are difference makers not play will leave a bad taste in the mouths of those that suck it up and go for it. Especially if we get embarrassed... which could happen.

At the moment, I have no idea how this team will stop the hogs running game. With all hands on deck they couldn't stop illinois. Good luck tomorrow.... hoping the young kids waiting in the wings have some starch and plenty of iron in them (iow, maybe we'll find a Trace M lurking and just itching for an opportunity).

When the college football playoffs effectively make the rest of the bowls inconsequential, the bowl becomes nothing more than another game in nice weather. As far as the weather goes, too many of the bowls can't even provide that, unless they are in southern California or southern Florida...the rest are a crap shoot. Cotton Bowl...not even the new AT&T Stadium can change the weather in the Dallas-Fort Worth area around the holidays. Memphis, Nashville, Charlotte, El Paso, Detroit and New York aren't that exciting to visit in the middle of winter either. So the only kids who would be invested in playing are the undergrads who have yet to be enticed by the prospects of a high draft pick, and everyone else on the team who has a chance to play one more game or who looks forward to another season with the team.

This dynamic will change, at least for teams that remain in a future 8 team or 16 team playoff. Get into the playoffs, and those teams should see fewer players opt out, because they then have something meaningful for which to play.

Did I miss something? Who said any of these players were part of bowl practice? I haven't seen that listed anywhere. As far as I'm aware, they didn't practice or travel with the team and everyone (except the fans) knew they were out a long time ago.

That kinda was my question... I'm not at the bowl practices so i have no idea if that happened or not. I'd simply assume that if a player (specifically Dotson and Tangelo) was going to opt out that they would NOT be practicing, in which case someone should have known long before this week that a player wasn't going to be playing. [iow, an observer sees JD or others not on the field, it kinda raisaes the flag, so no one is surprised a kid is opting out. Since there seemed to be some surprise, it would make me think they were at practice.]

And hey, maybe they did... but there seemed to be some handwringing here which makes me think it was a shock he opted out (not so much Dotson)... and I'm not sure why that would be unless Tangelo had been at practice.

These players were not part of bowl preparation. Rather, Franklin chose not to make their absence known until the very end. This was strategically done, so the opponent had to plan for them.
