"I'll announce right after the bowl game" = "I'm gone".

because his feelings are hurt and he does not like the news..... I'm sure if I had posted the opposite, and IMO Hamler's announcement indicated he was 'staying' another year, then his reply would have been all unicorns & rainbows.
Or maybe because he's not sure how you can draw any conclusions whatsoever from Hamlers statement?

I think he's gone, but if you're drawing conclusions from those words you're picking gnat shit out of pepper.

People have to realize we are only going to have them here for 3 or 4 seasons anyway. Enjoy what we have while we have it, hope these kids get their education and degrees, and make something out of their lives after football. Success with honor and Penn State proud.
Certain slower developers (OLs, etc.) may stay 4-5 but thats not to be expected. So on the whole you’re right.

Is a good or bad bowl game likely to affect Hamler’s draft position significantly? Could he be waiting on that plus the naming of the new offensive coordinator?
I like that. It sets up the scenario where a new OC is named and Hamler leaves. That way, everyone can HATE the OC before he even starts. Because its clear that if the OC were (fill in the blank with a shiny object) we would not have lost KJ to the draft.

So Hamler said today that he will let us all know his decision right after the bowl game. IMO that pretty much equates to "Right after the bowl game I will declare for the NFL".

I see no reason to post-pone an announcement until after the bowl game, IF the announcement is "I'm staying". If you are staying, no reason to not just say it now... why not?
The kid is being TEAM, why distract. If he goes we thank him for his exciting contributions.

Kiber wants to act like he’s smarter than everyone. From past history we all know that’s not the case.

Well. Money where mouth is... PM me and I will gladly wager $100. I'll take that he is declaring. You obviously think I'm wrong, so you take he is staying. $100 wager.

Let's see who is smart.

The kid is being TEAM, why distract. If he goes we thank him for his exciting contributions.

Just do not say anything then. He more or less said he is leaving. He could have simply said "I just want to talk about the bowl game".

And when you're the one making the announcement, you can do it before or after the bowl game.

Again. Fine. Great for him. I did not judge his decision. You guys are acting as if I judged his decision. My OP simply stated that based on his message, he is gone. I did not say he was wrong. I did not say he was a bad guy for leaving. I did not say he was being a distraction. I simply said that his statement today was equal to saying "I am announcing for the NFL after the bowl".

The OP is a fail.

Because it's a message that hurt your feelings and you do not want him to leave. IMO, Hamler more or less saying he is announcing for the NFL after the bowl is pretty big news.

He's 39th on this list that includes the best that aren't draft eligible. Listed before Micah.

Ahhhhhhh. This thread was started because HAMLER went public today and stated that he'd make his choice public after the howl game. It was HAMLER who got this started. Had Hamler said anything different, then this thread would not have started. Hamler could have very easily answered the question with "I have not made up my mind, I will not even think ab out it until after the bowl". But he did not.

Sorry guy but YOU started this thread, not Hamler.

And no one is blaming him for leaving. I totally agree. When you recruit stud athletes, you are not going to keep them for 5 years. The days of 1986 when we had a bunch of 5th year Seniors on the team are long gone. That's why I'm against redshiritng most of these guys. They are only going to stay 3 or 4 years anyhow, so you might as well use them.
I agree with you. If they are good enough to play, play them even if it’s on special teams. A redshirt sophomore is eligible for the draft and you only got 2 years out of them. At least get 3.

No. He is announcing that he is coming back.

The history of announcements like this suggests he will depart. Hamler got dinged up a bit this year. He is not the biggest guy in the world and another year might be unfavorable in terms of risk / benefit for an NFL contract. A lot of people expected him to declare after this season and I doubt it would be a surprise for JF.
People have said that Holmes in the 2020 class could be Hamler’s successor, even though he is an RB.

I am reading this post, and have made my decision about it, but will not tell you my thoughts until after the Cotton Bowl......so as not to be a distraction!
;):cool::D:rolleyes:

maybe you should re-read your OP because that is not what it says

He's coming back. Building supsense for return announcement to build up morale to make a run for 2020. They know they can be super special and win it all.

This somewhat goes to why I advocate for 5 full years of eligibility - 5 to play 5.

While some players will leave after 3 years, most will not be ready to play or contribute extensively in year 1 anyway. Let the coaches play them as they see they are ready, and Special Teams is one of the better ways to get them into the battle and contribute.

So the elite will leave after 3 years, many will play and leave after 4, and some, including some potentially key contributors, will stay for a 5th year and make a difference and maybe even help their chances for a look in the NFL or CFL if that is what they want.

According to CJF's presser they will have 11 EE's. He said it's a tight window for room & boarding so i'd imagine, he wants the players decisions by Jan 1, either way.

Fair to assume he’s gone but who knows. He might not even know yet. Sometimes there’s little benefit to waiting. In this case, there are benefits to waiting regardless.

He’s a young kid and some of us are starting to get more than a little crazy over this.

And I didn't judge you for stating your opinion, I simply said when you are making announcements you'll get to make them on your terms.

Additional quotes to suggest it is not decided:

“I don’t want to talk about that right now.’’ Hamler said.

“I’m focused on this bowl game and my teammates. Y’all going to find out right after the bowl game.”

Hamler, at least early in his interview session, would not even say if he’s made his decision but is delaying the announcement.

“I don’t know, to be honest,’’ Hamler said.

“I feel like that’s my business, and my teammates’ business and my coaches’ business. … I’m not really focused on that right now, I’m going down to Dallas, playing Memphis, just balling out for the team.’’

During the last two seasons, Hamler has established himself as one of the Big Ten’s most dangerous players on offense. He racked up 96 catches for 1,612 yards (16.8 average) and 13 touchdowns in 2018 and 2019.

“I think it’s a win-win for me to stay or leave, but you know, you always gotta write the pros and cons down,” Hamler said.

The wideout did say the decision-making process has been difficult.

“I didn’t think it was going to be this difficult and this stressful,” Hamler said.

I'm not sure the OP is being faithful to what he said.

Here's how I've seen it reported "KJ Hamler has yet to make a decision about his NFL future. Whatever he decides will happen after the Cotton Bowl."

those are materially different statements. if he was certain to go to the NFL, i am not sure why he would want to play in this bowl game. he has had some injuries already and why risk playing in a game that has not much visibility.

I agree. No more 5-year pine riders. The dynamic has changed. We might as well "use them" before they use us. Look to the transfer portal to see who you might get instead of worrying about who you might lose. Welcome to the world of free agency. It's a quick way to level the playing field against Ahiya State. Thank you.

Yes!! People get so butt hurt over this. These kids goal is to get to the NFL.

Yep. And it's why many choose The Ahiya State University. Either compete or be gone. Try bragging about graduation rates at the water cooler and you'll be standing alone. Don't like it? Then ask yourself, why do we play.

Commitment to excellence. Out!

That's downright motivational. I'm buying it.

This is a great receiver draft, unfortunately he is not one of them... good luck he is going to need it.

I think it shows that he and the others care about the team. JF said they don’t want to distract from the game

While I agree it's entirely up to KJ when, how, and what he chooses to disclose, this is my only beef (and it's a very mild beef) with what he said. According to his interview, he's already made his decision, but also says he's not saying what it is until after the bowl game because he doesn't want to be a distraction. Unfortunately, that makes him a distraction, as evidenced by this thread and all the reporters (a.k.a. "make-shit-uppers") writing equally uninformed speculations.

I wouldn't say this game has "not much visibility," as it's the ESPN lead in to both CFP semifinal games, and one of only four bowl games on December 28.

His coaches and teammates know. Maybe a distraction for fans, not for the team.
