only 28 4th or 5th year players on this team. this include non-scholarship players. 16 also have additional year of eligibility and may take it.

depending on the number who graduate and move on, plus any others who transfer, it looks like we could have 22-23 new scholarships open.

Why are you counting walk-ons? Phil said will prob be room for 20.
Phil has as much insight as to what that "number" will be as you, I, or my dog does.

As of today, there are 68 kids on scholarship who - if they remain with the team - will have 2017 eligibility (6 potential 5th year guys, 20 potential 4th year, 22 potential 3rd year, and 20 potential 2nd year).
How many will remain from those 68 between now and next summer - who knows? Even the coaching staff couldn't know for 100% certain.......injuries, transfers, early-entries, dismissals etc

So.....the number of kids who can be signed next February? 17.....and maybe a few more depending on how many "drop" from that list of "eligibles".

FWIW - PSU is currently playing with a roster of 78 kids who were recruited as "scholarship" players
Of that 78, 7 are "out for the year" due to injury, and 1 has been suspended for the entire year.......so it really is a roster of 70 - which includes all the elective redshirts (15, most of the freshmen class)

So, that is why even though PSU will only "graduate" a handful of Seniors (9, plus Chance Sorrell - who is giving up the sport), there will be at least 17 spots available for next year.
