Iowa news for 2024-25

Hey, where’s Madden been?

And they let AJ Ferrari use their facilities apparently unsupervised with recklessness when he wasn't even enrolled at Iowa, let alone been on the team.

If I was Ramos, I'd have said, come on Tom, I'm not like you or Ferrari, I can be trusted around young women.

Of course, if Chun had any gumption, she'd be telling Brands, he's my invitee and I don't run my decisions through you-and if the AD doesn't back her up-go public with the whole thing.

I don't want Iowa beaten in three weeks-I want them demolished, dispirited and embarrassed.

Ceterum (autem) censeo Iowum esse delendam

So we should assume this is all factual just because this guy says so?
I read most posts from PM with some skepticism that it’s the full (and fully accurate) story, but noted in this instance that Gilman reposted it. And Warner’s comment indicates there’s some validity.

Can someone explain the Metcalf issue that is part of it?

No, no we should not assume it is factual. On the other hand , we should not dismiss it as not factual just because this guy says so. However, how many of us could see this type of big brother behavior toward Chun and Kilty from the little brothers.?

Possibly the best response, if only because **Maryland** fans are now attempting to dunk on Iowa.

Maryland aside, if you are a top recruit, after hearing how they treat some of their former "greats", why would you even consider going to Iowa? That is insane to treat Gilman that way. Its not like Gilman or Ramos pulled a Lavon Chisley.

Also, your former "greats", if they are interested in coaching or competing after college, there are only so many slots available on the staff or RTC. Why be upset if they go somewhere else? Quite obviously all the greats for Cael, cannot coach at PSU. Some of them are going to move to another RTC because it pays more, has coaching opportunity, girl friend/wife has an opportunity, etc.

You should be happy for the success your former athletes achieve, even if somewhere else. You still get to brag that you were part of that success, which is true.

Ramos' departure was quite contentious, and both happily crapped on Iowa repeatedly after leaving.

However, Iowa still tried to bask in their glory. So Iowa should be better than this.

Maybe it’s been reported elsewhere, but what’s with Ayala?

Is it just simply that he wants a lot of NIL $ to stay?
I have no clue of Drake's motivations clearly, but based purely on speculation I would think long term if you bring in 3-5 guys every year on a big NIL/Portal bag, eventually that's going to cause friction with the original recruits who might have got none or less. I also don't think a constant focus on money as the biggest deciding factor will attract 'properly' motivated stars. Clearly Carl has said if it's money that is most important to your decision, then PSU is probably not the place for you. I don't hear T&T saying that.

We may see a period of in house free agency a across the NCAA for the kids who are not content.

I hope our team doesn't go down that route and it certainly is looking like going forward at PSU your opportunity for money will be set mainly with your initial recruitment. Get the best to start, get them paid, and then keep the best.

No doubt we will lose some kids probably even next year due to being caught in a log jamb, but Otherwise most of the best come to PSU because it's the best place to beb for their wrestling, not the highest payer.

Iowa's strategy and draw is taking on the different form, and I think the constant flow of new high paid vets will hurt the culture and cohesion. You ready what you sow.

No doubt Drake could get a top dollar bag, but if I had to guess rumors of his departure are more of a negotiating tool to get more money to stay in house.

No doubt negotiating strategy played a part but if someone spends enough mental/emotional energy contemplating leaving, there is no way they are "all in" on the current school.

I wonder why Terry Brands didn't want the lightweight wrestling coach for Oklahoma State into his wrestling room.
I know... and then you had Cael allowing wrestlers and coaches from all over the country into his room for events like trials and All Star matches. Weird the two think so differently huh?

It’s astounding to me that Iowa doesn’t have a ranked 125 lber. Is there a story to this with which I’m not familiar?
