Iowa State adding Nate Carr to RTC staff

There really wasn't a D3 college actively seeking a facilities VP so we had to get creative. The ISU slush fund rears its ugly head:) I can't wait to have Nate back hanging around Ames and he is very qualified for this position. It sure doesn't hurt that his kid can wrestle a bit as well. I think the fact that we improved our team score three fold from last year really made a statement lol. We just need to do that every year for the next 3 years and we are right back in business.....come on 9 points!

I see what you are saying, but I wouldn't call it Hinky in this case. Carr is an alumni, and with all the credentials you'd want for a position such as this. Add in that his kid will be there for the next few years, looks like a win for everyone.

I just hope he has a 4" binder to share......or perhaps a pin chain.....or something....we need help fellas. Can we have the Shak/Cassar loser of a wrestleoff? How about the Berge/Verk loser? Sadly we are not much of a threat.

Didn't see this discussed here, but we have joked about other wrestlers dads getting jobs with programs. This sure looks hinkey to me.

You mean because he was 3X NCAA champion, or his freestyle success including Olympic Bronze (after being screwed out of a finals spot), or his coaching resume that includes Iowa State previously and West Virginia as well as the previous 3 years coaching his son's high school team? Maybe it is hinky because while a hair short of Gable and Cael, he is one of the most successful Cyclone wrestling alums in the history of Iowa State.

Just my opinion, getting the kid to wrestle and the father to recruit and teach is a big freaking win for Dresser and the Cyclone family. Way to go ISU. Great gets both!

First, I don't believe he has ever coached at Iowa state previously. Secondly, he retired from coaching at WVU. What I find hinkey is that he is finally acknowledged by his alma mater at the age of 58 only after his son is a top notch recruit there.

Since hinky is "to do something maybe dishonest" i took hinky to mean ISU gave Nate a job he is unqualified for to induce his son to come to ISU.

I don't see anything wrong with that motivation. I can imagine most parents would love the opportunity to be able to watch their kid's college career...

After watching Spencer derail NJ in the finals, I'm glad his dad has a job that allows him to watch his talented son at home matches.

With Nate's new job, hopefully David Carr won't get home sick now and leave ISU to go back home, say after his freshman year. Best of luck to both Carrs.

Granted, I'm not very up to speed on NCAA regulations, but what's remotely questionable about this, given the number of father/sons who've coached/wrestled on the same team?
