Was talking over dinner about maybe flying out for the big dual this year. If anyone has hotel or airport suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Cedar Rapids is the closest airport. 20mins from airport to Carver Hawkeye.
Staying downtown at the Ped Mall in Iowa City puts you right in the downtown college area. Close to the arena.
The Marriott is about a 5 min drive away if you want to be outside the college area. Cedar Rapids isn't very far away either if you just want a room and don't care about location.

Fly into the Quad City Airport. (50 min drive to Iowa City) I live in Davenport and would be more than happy to let you stay at my crib. I live in a 1 bedroom loft on the Mississippi River so you will have to sleep on my couch. Well, its more of a love seat but the good news is my cat (Charlie) is a quality snuggle buddy. Plus its his couch really.. I will have plenty of snacks(Stollhouse cookies mainly) and beer(Bud and George Killian's).

Also, my gorgeous gal pal loves to cook and often makes pancakes/french toast in her underwear first thing in the morning. Plus for both of us! I will be going to the dual myself so you get a free ride with me and will have no worries on where to go or park. I might even buy you an Ice Cream cone and Hawkeye T-shirt. Only thing i ask is that you drive us back to the QC. Win or lose i will booze..

If you are interested send me a PM and i will make arrangements for my pal Brody Grothus to pick you up at the airport on his Motorcycle.

Depending on what I have going on, I might make a last minute decision to go to the PSU / Iowa dual as well.

I've never been to Carver Hawkeye Arena. It must feel like watching your favorite team play/wrestle the Yankees in Yankee Stadium with all the history.

I might keep an eye out for super cheap flights into Chicago and just rent a car. I might get lucky.

Hey turk, I'll take you up on that offer got to warn you though I have a bum leg and it locks up once in a while. Weird it usually happens after a short flight and I notice it in the morning. Only lasts a couple of hours so we should be able to go to the meet.. Sound good to you?

I went to BIGs last year and it was great. After checking out all of the possible ways of getting there a direct flight to Chicago and renting a car was the best way to go. It's about a 3 hour drive from Chicago to Iowa City with little traffic once you clear the Chicago area.

This what I was thinking too. Anyone got a handy farmers almanac to predict the weather? Driving from chi town isn't bad if weather is ok.

Turk....I may just take u up on that.

Good thing this is not on the football board... flags would be all over the field with a post like this and no pictures to back it up... LOL

You can fly into Minneapolis or Detroit and get a direct Cedar Rapids connection.Downtown is good and the Coralvilel area has many new Hotels and bars.

I always stay at the Sheraton in Downtown Iowa City. Within walking distance to all the downtown bars and restaurants. You can also walk around campus and see some of the sights, like the old capital building. It's about 1.5-2 miles from Carver, so you probably won't want to walk there during that time of year.
