It seems obvious now that Braedon Davis is our latest great light hope.

Robbie is giving me bad flashback to the Altons. I feel badly for him and hope he can work his way through this funk.

When was the last time Robbie made 125 before last Saturday? I wonder if he needs to get used to the weight again.

He doesnt look that big to me, nerves Im sure, weight I doubt. Meanwhile BD is making a STRONG case.
will be interesting how this plays out for him. Certainly hope it is 'something' that he can overcome. Right now it appears it is too easy to get to his legs. I like how he wants to go upperbody though!

Shoulder injuries are horrific I have had surgery on a rotator cuff and have a torn labrum. There's just no strength in them and it takes a lot of strength training to get strength back. That means more muscle which means added weight? Hope Howard can overcome this he is a joy to watch when he's on

Yeah, my only experience with shoulder injuries was in football and that can’t be 1/100 the stress one feels in this sport. Combined with the fact you can’t really get too big, just gotta be terrible. I feel for the man.

I couldn’t ****ing sleep through the night and I just had Impingement Syndrome and Frozen Shoulder. I’d roll the wrong way and wake up in agony

I do kickboxing workouts and cross fit it took me six months to get the courage to do a burpie I kept thinking about the agonizing pain for months I went through. I imagine he has to be thinking that with all the injuries he has had on his shoulders. Hope it's just mental Cael can get him through that

Does anyone know if Barr and Truax had a wrestle-off? Just wondering if Barr was able to keep it close. I’m pleasantly surprised by him so far. I knew he was talented but needed quite a bit of work still. Still does but he has looked good against some decent competition. He’s been better on top than I thought as well

I am getting flashbacks of Jimmy Gulliban. I keep waiting for the switch to flip (he had so much ability and potential), and I kept waiting pretty much every match... for his whole career. He came, he worked and he left, a bit of a head scratcher. Robbie has a clear reason, hopefully he can break through.

Looks like the depth chart is:
125- Davis, Howard, Steen
133- Nagao, Shunk, Wang
141- Bartlett, Kasak, Evans
149- Van Ness, Pierce, Heard
157- Haines
165- Messenbrink, Barraclough, MLee
174- Starocci, Borden, Dunbar
184- Truax, Barr, Ball, Kelly
197- Brooks
285- Kerkvliet
Best PSU team ever. Could this be the best college wrestling team ever?

Jimmy Gulibon took 5th at Nationals. If you are thinking of a comparison for Robbie then probably James English, as he was injured for 3 plus years also. Certainly we want him to return to the form and potential he showed 3 years ago, but right now Davis has just won a tournament and beaten 2 ranked wrestlers back to back, and he deserves our best wishes also.

Jimmy Gulibon finished 5th as a soph before moving up to 141 as a JR - maybe because of Conaway but whatever the reason it helped the team. Conaway garnered his second AA during Gulibons JR year while Jimmy went 2-2 up a weight (without a RS). As a SR he lost to the #4 seed Kolodzik and then in the R12 to the #2 seed Ryan Jack 6-4.

All these Howard comparisons are just reaches.

Besides that year that he took 5th he was a huge dissappointment.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

You just started posting if I'm not mistaken, but keep them coming.

This means nothing unless Davis can score points at NCAAs. You need to work Howard back in since his top is potentially higher and flush this out.

So is Joe Lee done?

If you're a PSU fan, be disappointed for him.

If you're living vicariously thru him, then be disappointed in him.
What are you talking about? People who say that Gulliabans career wasnt a dissappointment are just lying. Gullibon himself would admit that his career was a dissappointment.

Is Davis' potential less than Howard's, this year or long-term? If Howard had never injured his shoulders, sure. But that's now happened multiple times.

Davis has proven he can beat 2 NCAA qualifiers in one day. That's halfway to the podium. The only way to judge the other half is have him compete against tougher wrestlers: 3 out of 18 Kaylor, 8 DeAugustino, 11 Ayala, 6 Peterson, or 12 Smith.

It's trickier with Howard because not only does he have to prove he can beat any of them, he needs to prove he can beat multiple qualifiers in the same event. PSU's remaining schedule does not provide the opportunity to beat multiple qualifiers in the same day, and neither do most Opens.

He was a 4 yrs starter on the #1 team in the country, hardly a disappointment. Won some big matches and had the one AA. Not everyone is going to pan out as 2-4 timers, like some of the greats we’ve had.

If he started 1 or 2 years with no AAs, I may lean your way (because of where he was rated out of HS) But someone that took the mat every time and competed his ass off..no way.

Jimmy Gulibon (as it is correctly spelled) was a 4x NQ, an AA and a hell of a tough out at nationals despite clearly wrestling up from his ideal weight his last two years.

He had wins over: Pletcher, M Jordan, Richards, Clark, Montoya, Beckman, Thorn and other AAs.

He started on two B1G Championship teams, three NCAA championship teams and two undefeated dual meet teams.

If you want to call what he did at PSU a disappointment, then please do so while also sharing your own wrestling accolades.

So what you're saying is that Gulibon failed to live up to YOUR goals.
Virtue signaling? Many view history through a distorted lense.

No need to get into a historical pissing match, but Cael himself numerous times in press conferences stated as such without coming out directly in saying it, after a number of frustrating losses. Things like Jimmy has all of the tools he just needs to let it fly. Jimmy is close... Jimmy... only to then have yet another head scratching close loss.

Jimmy came into the program with credentials that supported expectations from many (fans, coaches and himself) he would be the next PSU 125 national champ contender following what Nico was soon to accomplish.

"I would love to be an All-American and hopefully I can become an NCAA champion,'' Gulibon told InterMat"
