Recruiting Questions. Anyone? Help me get this done tonight so I can actually have a few hours of downtime tomorrow. I could really use it. I'm starting to hate my computer.

Who is left that is a PSU target and not yet committed?

Why is Andre Roye still CB'd to Maryland if he is committed to PSU?

One question to go back in time....How highly thought of was Tony Sacca coming out of HS in the 1980s? Any way you guys can" reverse engineer" a rating system for Sacca vs. other QBs - I think it was 1988 class....

...and the throw away question.....does PSU have any shot in the world with Arch Manning?

Interested in DTs in the 2023 cycle. What are your thoughts on PSU's chances with Joel Starling's and Sydir Mitchell? Any news or update on these young men? Are there any other DTs for whom we are a strong contender? Thanks!

I was born in 1988. I have no idea how to answer the Tony Sacca question. haha. Sorry man.

I'll mention something to Phil about stopping over here to chime in. Not sure if he's around today or not.

Arch will be Georgia bound, imho.
I'll try to get some scoop as one of my bosses is really good friends with Peyton (went to Canton to see the HOF induction ceremonies).

What positions are being focused on for the remaining 2022 scholarships?

And are there any positions that stick out for the 2023 class that seem like they require disproportionate numbers?

I recall Tony Sacca being one of the top ranked recruits in the country.

I see Tony every now and then at a local watering hole - his brother John also.

The question was posed to me, and I remember him being a big deal and it came down to PSU v ND. I want to say that Rick Mirer ended up at ND so Tony came to PSU.

I don't really want to ask Tony directly because I don't want to appear like some sort of middle aged fanboy. Besides - he may not know. Figured recruiting experts would.

Cool. As long as he does not go to Ohio State, I am OK with whatever he does. Not sure where the Bucks land on his radar though.

Does NIL ever come up in recruiting discussions? It’s it even allowed? If allowed, how do coaches handle it?
What about the new court ruling saying football players are employees?

Back in 1988, the Parade All-American team was, IMO anyway, the most valid rating of high school talent. It at least offered a more national view than some others at the time.

On the Parade lists, players were usually listed in order of "rank" although such a ranking was not stated in the magazine. The players were definitely not listed alphabetically.

So, to your answer.

Tony Sacca was the 5th-ranked QB, behind Todd Marinovich (USC, I think). Michael Carr (?), Preston Jones (?), and Darian Hagan (I think he went to Colorado, but I'm not really sure).

From that 1988 Parade list, Penn State also signed the following:

1. RB OJ McDuffie (later moved to WR) from Ohio
2. RB Adam Shinnick from MA
3. RB Bob Samuels from PA
4. DL Eric Renkey from PA

I've read in 2 different articles where Chase Bisontis isn't interested in PSU, but my opinion in reading BWI articles he is. What's the latest you've heard? CD back on the field finally.

Hagan did play at Colorado, he is a coach there now

I do not remember Carr or Jones and also Shinnick to be honest, although I was only 19 at the time myself

Are you going to post the responses to the questions here on BWI or the Den?

I remember Shinnick. He did not like it here and transferred back. With BC or UMass I think.
Don’t recall Samuels.
Renkey was mentioned several times in the book by Denlinger in that class.

Bobby Samuels was the fastest player on the squad. Grades so he left.

Was Samuels from Farrell? Not sure where he went transferred to.
Yes, I believe so. I don't know either re: a transfer - pre Internet days. I knew players that knew him at State and he got on the wrong side of Joe. Tons of talent.

What happened with Anthony Smith, the big kid from Shippensburg, PA? Did PSU pass on him? If so, why? He was updated to a 4 star defensive line prospect on another site.
