I take it none of you attend NCAAs? Every year I've gone to NCAAs (haven't been there for a few hears now), the arena would roar in applause anytime an Iowa guy lost, even if it wasn't an upset. This was during years that Iowa wasn't even in title contention as a team. I sat next to the PSU section one year. And it happened when a kid from a small school with small fan base won, so it's not like it was that teams crowd.
Cheering a loss happens all of the time. I witnessed a ton of PSU fans do it at nationals. I guess all of those fans don't attend the state tourney in PA.
I've been to multiple NCAAs and PIAA's and it is a completely different crowd dynamic. States is filled with family and friends of the wrestlers and people very interested in PA high school wrestling in general. The majority of participants who go on to wrestle in college do not go to Penn State and many more will not wrestle in college at all therefore very few people would of been viewing this match from the perspective of future college affiliation. If people were supporting DeSanto, it was because they were friends and relatives, or people supporting Exeter High School or District 3 or because he was a big underdog or because some fans had an issue with Franklin Regional or perhaps Lee's mat demeanor over the years. Not because he chose Iowa over Penn State.
