Jim Ferry, former Duquesne coach, to be Pat Chamber's assistant for MBB

Chambers always spoke highly of Ferry when the two teams played and Ferry at Duquesne, like Chambers at Penn State, coached at a place that's tough to recruit and win. Ferry did a great job turning around LIU-Brooklyn prior to his appointment at Duquesne.

I think it's a good hire. I'm interested to see what effect Ferry has on our offensive schemes. Ferry should also help with recruiting connections in the NYC/Long Island corridor.

Yeah, it only took him nine years to do it. Maybe Chambers hired him as a reminder to Barbour.

Here is his Wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Ferry_(basketball)

Interesting hire - I really like what he did at LIU. Basically took them from bottom of the conference to back-to-back NCAA appearances during his tenure there (along with an additional conference COTY award in 2005 without a NCAA appearance to show for it --- 1 bid conference, only matters if you win the conference tourney).

Duquesne, not so much - but, he inherited absolutely nothing as well and did improve on that a slight bit in his 5 years. An interesting note that he originally had Jamari Walker going there (the PG recruit that we signed about a month ago for the 2017 class), nd the rest of his class that he had are mostly going to major programs after release -- one to TAMU, and a big/center to VCU.

Take it for what it's worth, but I think the fact that Chambers now has an assistant coach with substantive DI HC experience is a bit of a feather in his cap. I'm going to be very interested in seeing if this changes anything when it comes to our schemes on the court.

Welcome, Coach Ferry.
