Joe Lee (Wilkes Open)...

Garrett Hammond is registered at 157. Better luck next year, Joe.

That will be awesome to see Garrett wrestling again. He tore his ACL last year in his first match at Drexel and hasn't wrestled since. I do hope he wrestles tomorrow.

brackets are posted.....Joe could get 5 matches today.

Looks like floarena just has the brackets not the "dashboard" or video. tis what it tis

I have tried to go every now and then. Saw the Altons a few years ago. Unfortunately today doesn’t work out good for me.

Friery doesn't have a 1st round match, Blumer won by MD 11-3. J. Lee coming up soon on mat 4.

Was up, then got taken down and ridden for 30+, to get Rev to go up by 1 with like 20 secs left, but got Rev and lost by 1.

Proud of him for going up a weight in a college tourney as a HS senior. this loss against his wins in earlier tourney at 157 are good learning tools.

how he handles the wrestle backs will show more than the initial loss i think.

^^this^^, would be nice to see him go on a run through consi's, get as much mat time as possible now. Anybody know what his weight is right now, I thought he was a light 157, but I could easily be wrong?

Blumer wins by TF in round of 16, in 3:31.

Joe won first consi round, 21-5 TF at 5:54 against B. McGill of Wilkes. Next will be C. Zacceria of Sacred Heart.

Blumer in semis against R. Pomrinca of Lehigh. Beat J. Rossetti 7-3 in quarters

Brian Friery lost 3-7 to F. Pelga in QF. Waiitng for opponent in consis.

joe gets a MFor in the next round his last match of the day will be for 5th place.

Yes, fairly normal. A lot of Opens don't have full wrestlebacks.

If nothing else, it's 2 less rounds that have to be wrestled, when a lot of competitors are paying for it themselves, going as a day trip or at least trying to avoid an extra night onsite.

Pomrinca is tough. He beat Randy Cruz in the wrestle off last year, but Cruz still got the spot. If Pomrinca could score more he would be a beast. He went to the wrong school to open up his offense. Every stinking match of his seems to be 3-2, one way or the other.

If you all would allow me to veer off topic just a bit please...

With Berge wrestling at 57 and Joe Lee at 65 today, does that increase the odds that Verk will go at 49 next year?

Not really. Ed Ruth wrestled 184 during his redshirt year and then wrestled 174 the next 2 seasons. I expect 149 next year to be between Berge and Verk unless one of them has a growth spurt in the next year which is something no one can predict. I don't expect Lee (who is still in high school) to ever wrestle 149 in college.

May I ask where your handle comes from? I was supposed to be ‘86 at one point.

Yes, I graduated in 86. PTB are just my initials. I am a Jerseyite who spend my first two years at Behrend before moving to the main campus.

Ah, I was just wondering if you had a connection to Joe Blumer (the dad), who graduated in ‘87.

The 4th placer in Lee's bracket actually wrestles and helps out at my club quit a bit. Didn't know he was gonna compete, while back home.

No, I did not know him. The only connection I had to the team back in those days is to a guy Joe Hodge who beat me pretty good in HS. I think Hodge wrestled at LSU or some southern school and transferred to PSU after the program was dropped.

@CropDuster507 -- your club quits. That doesn't go with my mental picture of you. Alas, it's not a characteristic that is likely to help you with Hula Hoop Girl.
