Jones sees this game like the Illinois game last year...but...Mustipher and Beamon weren't even on the field that day.Two dirtballs as in genuine dirt. Grime. Soiled. Unkempt. Messy. Pig 🐷 sty material.
I’ve watched several of their videos, and they’ve been very unremarkable. No particular special college football assessment/analitical skills evident. —If you’ve played any organized football in your life, you’re likely to have a better handle on the upcoming game than these folks. —Puts me in mind of the “ everyone gets a trophy “ job placement result. Maybe they were good in the past, I don’t know ( I haven’t lived in PA for 35 years, and only recently checked out their videos).
How are the LBs and front 4 so far 'good' to 'excellent' in your assessment? Seems a little overly positive. Our FG kicking is still shaky, which is no surprise. We will see vs Auburn truly the better areas on this team, which have taken steps, and which still need a ton of work. I do agree with most of the analysts consensus throughout this week that we have a better roster top to bottom, but Auburn's power football style and controlling the LOS is a great equalizer and is opposite to our style. This is why it should be a fun matchup as these two different world's collide.I’ve watched several of their videos, and they’ve been very unremarkable. That said, Auburn certainly could win the game….but it’s much more doubtful than likely. AU has a very good set of tailbacks and a solid OL. Otherwise they are less than impressive. I think Penn State is beginning to come together, and find their rhythm. Their OL appears serviceable and the trajectory is up ( at least slightly). All other areas are good to excellent. I don’t see PSU losing this unless there are a rash of turnovers.
I believe that if the game were played 10 times, Penn State wins at least 7 ( given the individual athletes on these teams. )
—Penn State’s speed and athleticism matches up very well with Auburn.
I have never understood why Flounders always looks like he just woke up 5 minutes ago after a bender. Maybe he is who he is and I have learned to accept it. But I genenerally like these 2 as they do not act like homers and I think they are more objective than most of the Penn State media. But, yes, as a fan, it can come across as negative. And they do not typically have any inside information. They are wrong more than right so I like it
Good, the more doubters the more motivation for this team.
The linebackers need to come to play. This could be a game where not having Izzard could hurt us. If you play undersized DT's, they better be quick as sh!t, and live in the opposing team's backfield. I haven't really seen that yet. from Beamon or Durant. Mustipher needs to have a big game.I’ve watched several of their videos, and they’ve been very unremarkable. Agreed...very well said. PJ hasn't been dominant at all through two games, and our undersized, but athletic front, hasn't exactly made their mark either. This cannot be a game where they are still a no show without a recorded sack or without leaving in imprint. Auburn pounds the rock and will do so until you can minimize the damage. To your point, the LB's will HAVE to help stop the run -- and in turn, our secondary being a perceived strength, will have to be able to cover their man 1:1. We can't just deploy the 4-2-5 for the majority of this game. Minimizing Bigsby and Hunter in the backfield as much as possible gives us the best chance to win.The linebackers need to come to play. With that said, Clifford is healthy, we have an above average backup at QB, and we have skilled people galore that can make big plays. So I doubt it will play out like Illinois.
Yep, the LB's need to step up against the run. Can't be trying to tackle the Auburn RB's 10 yards down the field as that won't stop drives and when they miss a tackle it could lead to a TD right then. The linebackers need to come to play. Big game. If we cannot slow down Auburns running game, we could really be in trouble going into that October stretch against Michigan , Minnesota and TOSU.Yep, the LB's need to step up against the run. I watched last year's Auburn game again last night (it was replayed on B10 network yesterday) and the PSU LB's played very well in limiting the Auburn running game. Bell particularly made solid tackles near the LOS, and both Smith and Jacobs also played very well. This is the game where Diaz will be likely be forced to play the Mike LB that is playing the best between Elsdon and King as PSU can't afford weak LB play. I also noticed some bad angles and late coverage in that game from Sutherland so he better be much improved over last year for PSU to hold up against the run. Jacobs played very well vs Auburn last year at Sam LB.
PSU also needs to create some turnovers this year. Smith put on a juggling show and dropped a sure interception/TD last year that would have put that game away earlier. When Auburn is forced to pass PSU has to come up big. I don't believe Auburn will pass much even when they are behind the sticks at 3rd and 5-7 until PSU shows they can consistenly stop the run,
Ha, I also watched the replay of last years game...It was nice having Luketa, Brooks, etc at LB...this year's time is so inexperienced and unproven at LB...it is concerning. It's why I think judging Manny might take a full season and then some...can't remember a LB corps this inexperienced and questionable in a long time. I think Abdul Carter will play a lot on Saturday as what many thing could be the most athletic LB we have. This is the game for him.Yep, the LB's need to step up against the run. Do you believe there is a chance that Diaz puts Carter in at Will and moves Jacobs back to Sam to get his best run stopping LB group on the field?Ha, I also watched the replay of last years game...It was nice having Luketa, Brooks, etc at LB...this year's time is so inexperienced and unproven at LB...it is concerning. While we lead the nation in PBU's (I believe I read that), I agree with you, we need to force turnovers. You can't continue at this pace of dropping INT's and not getting turnovers from your defense...it isn't sustainable. I really think winning on first down, especially on defense, will be huge. If Bigsby and Hunter are churning out 5-6-7 yard runs, it will be a long day.
Also, nobody asked (to my knowledge) about a status update on Izzard and Vilbert. I believe both are probably out long term, anyways. But, I agree with you, Carter and Jacobs are your two most athletic LB's, they have to be on the field at the same time as much as possible. I just don't see much from Elsdon, and Sutherland makes me nervous. He never really excelled as a DB, and transitioning him to LB I think is a way of keeping veteran leadership on the field. At the end of the day, the LB really need help from the front 4. We need to see sacks, TFL's out of the Dline to put Auburn off schedule and allow the LB's and the defense to play down hill. Last year, we were fortunate to have Ebeketie who could win a 1:1 matchup all the time; even Luketa was a very physical presence as well. This is game 3...at this point, someone(s) has to flash up front and get to the qb and bring him down. We've seen it from Chop, but he can't be the only one. We have an abundance of young guys up front...having one or a couple breakthrough is critical. JF always talks about needing game wreckers up front (like OSU has had with the Bosa's, Young), that is still something we haven't had to that level, or anywhere close. Hopefully in success by numbers with all the young guys we have, that will be our formula.Do you believe there is a chance that Diaz puts Carter in at Will and moves Jacobs back to Sam to get his best stopping LB group on the field?
Wish someone in the media would have asked that to Franklin instead of the softball questions, but Franklin wouldn't have answered anyway........
I fear Izzard and Vilbert are in the same boat that that Beamon was in last year. Also, nobody asked (to my knowledge) about a status update on Izzard and Vilbert. Vilbert might be back a little sooner but Izzard was at practice in #50 on the scout team. Also, nobody asked (to my knowledge) about a status update on Izzard and Vilbert. If I remember correctly someone did ask Franklin about Izzard and Vilbert but the wording of the question let Franklin off the hook somewhat. Something like "do you have an update on Izzard and Vilbert?" to which Franklin just said "no" and looked for the next question.....Also, nobody asked (to my knowledge) about a status update on Izzard and Vilbert. Love Stix City.I think when we are celebrating our big win around 8pm on Saturday, we will be talking about how Abdul Carter was the key and how this was his breakout game.

Well said...and no doubt, beating Auburn would be a nice statement and big for JF and company. But, from the standpoint of achieving goals, i.e. winning the B1G East and playing for a conference title, it isn't a requirement to win this game. Beating Purdue was MUCH more valuable to that end. Granted, winning at Auburn is a 'bigger' win from a visibility and respect standpoint, but I'd rather be 1-0 in the B1G after Saturday, instead of 0-1 with a win at Auburn. With that being said, let's win darn it!Very few teams finish a season undefeated. Winning at Auburn is a formidable task. A closely contested loss is not the end of the world. The most important thing IMO would be to rebound and continue to improve each week. There is no denying that the past two seasons....loses have seemed to deflate the team and progress halts.
A loss does not preclude a 5-1 record and an improved team heading into the meat of the schedule.
A win is of course always easier to digest and enjoy. A win however, would not put an end to the cries of "We deserve better."
Our fanbase needs to come to the realizationt that those two guys find satisfaction in needling us. They salivate all offseason thinking of different ways to get under our skin. Those two clowns are in it for clicks and views. Never have a seen a person like Dave Jones. Always rips the place that pays his bills.
Yeah. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZYeah, there's a shocker! Who gives a crap what these two "never played a sport in my life" PSU-hater, loudmouth twits think?

Jones.... Flounders.... experts????Games a toss up in most circles. Who cares what any “expert” picks? The issue confronting the Nits is being on the road in heat and humidity. They better be hydrating a lot early on or Q4 could be ugly. And yes Auburn has the tank and will give him the rock 30 times. PSU is not stout on the DLOS.
and then we should have won by a bigger margin..Absent winning every game there will never be an end to “We deserve better”.
I thought this would be an 8-4 team. Winning at Auburn would allow me to dream a bit bigger.Well said...and no doubt, beating Auburn would be a nice statement and big for JF and company.
