Just a thought regarding recruits...

It's an interesting time. Because of the success this year, Franklin is going to have access to some recruits who otherwise wouldn't have returned his calls. Because he is having this success at PSU, not Vanderbilt, he is going to have access to a caliber of player he has never even dealt with before.

But some of them, Penn State will be better off if they go to Ohio State or Michigan or the SEC. Franklin and his staff have to figure out who.

Overall it's a nice problem to have, but I hope Franklin has the strength to turn down some people who are great football players but not Penn State caliber people. That is not easy. I'm optimistic though.

James has from day one given every indication he gets what Penn State means. He took the names off the uniforms. He suspends people if they miss a class. I think he knows what it means and if the five stars want to play for him, hopefully they know what is required.

Do you think/Is it possible that there is diminishing returns when recruiting 4 and 5* recruits?

If you recruit extremely talented recruits 4/5*s who stay 3 years vs 3/4*s that stay 4 years, what gives you the most complete team?

This is perhaps the experiment that PSU and MSU predicate their success upon...

Just a thought.
Here is my take. The key to success is quality across the board. If you do not have a few say 5 * to carry but you are 2 deep with quality at each position, even though they are a blend of 3 & 4* you will be competitive. If you recall the big stars in PSU's champion season played on the teams we beat.
