Just for kicks...PSU vs Iowa Dual this coming season...

I won't get into a prediction this early, but, I will say that I don't think the Iowa guys are delusional this year. They have a great team, as does PSU and it should be a great dual and a great battle at Rutgers and Minneapolis.

I'm looking forward to it. Lets get Ironbird over here to discuss it. He seems like the most rational and down to earth guy on HR.
Rational? This is taken from a post he made about the Zain Yianni bout

“Once again everyone seems to be overlooking the BIG picture which is once again, good old karla and F*** st. being involved with some kind of head scratching BS!

You saw it in the NCAA's with Nolf, you see it here with Zain, you see it with the constant "odd" seeding, recruiting, injury shirts, gray shirts, camp money..... it goes on and on.

In another thread, someone compared them to the patriots. Their reasoning was wrong but the comparison is correct! They are both a bunch of rule breaking POS in my opinion.

It is well past time to start looking into this BS much deeper!!!!”

Still think he is rational?

And Turk actually slapped him down a bit. Basically said show proof.

There’s so much to love there, but “odd seeding” is a great one. I’ve seen that a few times - like our guys routinely are gifted easy paths in tournaments.

You give Warnerov a mulligan because “ something was up last year” , yet you dont think Berge cutting 10-12 pounds is a big deal? What is Young doing RIGHT NOW? Berge is training for Worlds. Check the credentials, and you will see last years Berge was far from normal. Young aint beatin a non-starved Brady Berge.

The rest of the picks look good, and even kinda surprised of your 285 guess.

Every time a Hawk wrestler isn't pinning every opponent or loses a match HR thinks something is obviously wrong because we all know that if a Hawkeye is 100% nobody can beat him.

A couple of things

125 is a given for Spencer, even if he has Sleeping sickness or Sarz or whatever made up disease this year brings. Unless he doesn’t go because of that ....

I think at 149 Verk this year is going to be different, he has his personal health better managed since February and the results were evident, and I think his getting caught in the big move will be eliminated after another year in the room. So just giving this to Lugo can’t happen IMO.

If beard goes 197 he wrecks Warner #stampit, but Conel we have no idea what we are getting, lightning in a bottle 2018 NCAA Conel, or bum shoulder Conel.

I think Big Cass comes out and actually goes toe to toe with Ant, but then when cardio kicks in at about minute 3-4 then the boat race starts.

I believe that this will be the most competitive and exciting PSU-Iowa dual meet in some time. Although I hope I'm wrong about 149, because I can't stand Lugo.

125: Spencer Lee WBF Teske

133: RBY DEC DeSanto

141: Lee DEC Murin

149: Lugo DEC Verkleeren

157: Young DEC Berge

165: Marinelli DEC Joseph

174: Hall DEC Kemerer

184: Rasheed DEC Wilke

197: Conel DEC Warner

285: Cassar MD Cassioppi

PSU wins the dual meet, 18-15

19-15 with a Cassar major?

Lee WBF Either
RBY WBD
Lee WBMD
Lugo WBD
Bergie WBD
AMar WBD
Hall WBD
Sheed WBF OR Brooks WBD
Warner WBD Conel OR Beard WBD
Cassar WBMD

We win

125: Spencer Lee wins by tech fall over Teske in the 2nd

133: DeSanto wins by decision over RBY(gets a few favorable Carver stall calls)

141: Lee wins by decision. Murin has yet to be majored and I don't see it happening at Carver.

149: Lugo over Verk in ot.

157: Berge shows that he belongs in the conversation of possible finalists at this weight, but ultimately falls to Young in a nail-biter.

165: Joseph over Bull in an epic battle. While I still feel that the Bull is right there to win it all this coming year, Joseph is too good to lose to the same wrestler 3 times in a row.

174: Hall wins by decision over Kemerer. His defense is the deciding factor in this round.

184: Rasheed wins a comfortable decision over Wilcke.

197: Warner wins a close one over Conel/Beard to put the Hawks ahead for good.

285: Cassioppi comes to wrestle, but Cassar is too much for him. Cassar wins by 6. No major as he is going big to get the fall to win the meet.

Hawks win the battle, 17-15, but ultimately lose the war when PSU takes the team title in March.

Predictions are harmless and “fun”, but PSU is not going 0-3 at 33/49/57...

And PSU sure as hell ain’t goin’ no 0-4 at 33/49/57/65.

I'm old enough to remember a certain match w to$U when we couldn't possibly win any of 133/141/149 on the road and yet the guys took the mat and the team almost won each of them.

Desanto in the Rec Hall environment could be interesting!:)
Brands has petitioned the Big10 to not have Iowa wrestle in State College until Cael promises to let Iowa be competitive. In an interview with Black and Gold Tommy B was quoted as saying every third year I can protect my guys by refusing to wrestle them meanies from Penn State, but my guys need a little conference help after that. I mean come on, I build their confidence way up with a couple titles at the Iowa City Duals and the Midlands and watch it get crushed at their BJC. I mean really. They can't be happy crushing our spirit in front of 7,000 loud people in the regular gym. They make a spectacle of kicking our fannies in by doing it in that big arena, with 16,000 people yelling, and on television too. Gee whiz. They even yell at my fun loving brother to sit down.
I am just looking for a wee bit of help.

If TnT doesn't care to travel to Happy Valley during the third/off year, then Cael should go to Midlands and deliver the Hawks a whoppin.

Going to the Scuffle to meet different teams instead of going to Midlands, which has most of the BIG schools is probably more important to Cael than whooping the Hawkeyes, which we already do at BIGs and NCAAs.

Why should we compete at a Big Ten Tournament in December when we compete at one in March?

Yea I hear you both and I completely agree with your logic.

But stealing the Midlands trophy and delivering a whoopin every three years would be fun :)

If Tommy is too scared to travel to State College for that 3rd year dual i see no benefit to traveling to the Midlands just to deliver the same beat down they will deliver in the Bigs and NCAAs. What i would love to see is a trip to Iowa to wrestle ISU and UNI.
UNI had as many finalists and individual champions as the Hawks and ISU dang near beat the Hawks in their dual, so the quality of the competition is very similar and the Panthers and Cyclones most likely would love the competitive opportunity. As opposed to the Hawks fearing it.

Great point.
I’m old enough to remember that match as well.

Tan Tom was supposed to surge ahead & be leading 13-0, until he didn’t.

I've been hoping for this "long weekend" for the last few years. UNI on Friday night and ISU on Sunday.
