Juwan is transferring (LINK)

I would assume his mission is more playing time to get in better position to be drafted.

I also think that is short sighted. Galt’s kids have been killing it in the combine over the last couple years. He could get drafted on measurables alone if he stuck around. I think that might be as important as actual production at times for NFL teams.

Hope he does not think he will be allowed to go to Michigan without sitting for a year.

Wow didn’t see that coming.
I doubt anyone did. Despite JJ''s struggles with holding onto the ball, he was a team player and a very good blocker. Hopefully he lands somewhere to allow him to make the most of his final year and if no offers pop that he likes I would hope he would stick with PSU. He is a good young man.

I do not know this for a fact ... he may have been told that his playing time will be behind the young guys in '19 ....
Yeah, I wonder when Franklin sits down with each player to discuss their future in the program.

Potentially, a really big loss. He was very good in 2017, but was dinged up and had to many drops last year. That doesn't mean he won't be healthy and have a good year in 2018. Remember, Gesicki had a season where he couldn't catch consistently, then came back strong the next year. I think Franklin will have a full 25 schollies this year if he chooses to use them and can find enough players he wants.

Best wishes --- hopefully it's just that he needs a change of scenery. Something was a bit "off" with him this year, right from Day 1.

I still do think he has the talent to be a late-round NFL Draft pick.

Would the staff even be talking about this with the players already? The season just ended

Definitely. This game is played 24/7/365 now. They can't put pads on and work on things like that, but this time of year is all about roster management. I think it's in the best interest for all:

JJ gets to find his new school, get acclimated. Spring practice, summer workouts, etc.

Our WR room gets to vie for #1 spot. We get to figure out who the 3 starters are instead of plugging in a #2 later.

It was both of them.

Penn State wide receiver Geno Lewis to transfer to Oklahoma
Penn State wide receiver Geno Lewis has decided to transfer to Oklahoma for his final year of eligibility after a 2015 season that saw reduced playing time and production.

Thought Brown left during the sanctions free walk away card spree...no?

So if nobody picks him up, does he remain on the team?

Schools can contact him etc. But he can still decide to stay if they arent going to pay him enough $ to go there. Whoops, let that one slip. This isnt a draft.

You go in the portal, the rate of transfer must be 95%? I mean, how do you come back from it lol

Has the transfer portal ever been reversed? I wouldn’t want to be the first.

so it was "expected" then.

I met one of his family members in Nov in his hometown (Glassboro NJ) and was told JJ was thinking he needed a fresh start. Felt it hadn’t clicked for him at PSU. Loved CJF and PSU but felt he had not reached his full potential and some other place might help him to get next level

Take it for what it’s worth.

well, good for him. he has options and he's earned them. I hope nothing but the best for him.

Make good choices!

FWIW: As a practical matter, entering the portal means he's gone (though that could certainly change in the future).

Note that Stevens most definitely explored other possibilities but chose not to enter the portal.
Not so sure...we'll see. tOSU is, from what I am hearing, fairly confident they will retain Martells. When push come to shove, sometimes, what appeared to look good and fun isn't so when you are faced with that move. If CJF wants to keep him, he should listen. Much of what JJ faced was due to injury.

How can explore other options without entering the portal? Wouldn't that be a violation?

kind of. First, there was no portal last year. Second, he made a personal evaluation of where he was, what he thought his options to be and what would happen at PSU if he stayed. The portal, this year, actually allows the player and other coaches to talk.

so, through the portal, JJ could talk to the Pitt, Syracuse and MSU coaches to see if he would be offered a 'ship and where he would fit into their systems. tommy didn't have that opportunity last year. Anther difference is that JJ graduated, so he could do whatever he wanted without having to sit out a year, portal or no portal.

Thanks for clarifying.

Can CFB get any trashier? Nothing fun about this as a fan. I’m sure JJ feels the same. The whole system is sleazy AF.
yeah. welcome to being a cleveland fan!

I have mixed emotions. On one hand, I love that the kids have options. On the other, a program puts years into a kid developing him and then losses out. Not to mention the fans.

I don't think the system was designed with JJ in mind. And, in fact, since he graduated, he doesn't need the portal. Having said that, I think this is more about a kid being able to leave if his coach leaves, they run a different system than one in which he was recruited or a kid that is blocked like Hurts or Wimbush.

About to just embrace the NFL and all the crap it entails - at least everyone is paid. College Football has become a farce.

the portal didn't exist when Stevens was deciding his future last year.
