Kyle Snyder comments...

While he admittedly has friends on the team, Snyder brings a different mean streak to this one.

"Something about when you put them all together and they wear a Penn State singlet," he said. "I just want to destroy them. ... I just want to beat them worse than I've wanted to beat any team since I've been at Ohio State."

Let's go then... Kyle.
How did that work out for you Kyle

I still can’t believe that Nick gassed Kyle. One heck of a job, by Nick!

Well, you have to understand, all that world travel makes a man tired. On top of that, Snyder knew he had to make something happen, and it just wasn't fair that Nick had all that extra weight when Kyle tried to elevate him. And finally, Kyle's thumbs were super tired from his intense Twitter workouts.

But hey, tOSU still has their look at me decoration and they didn't even have to worry about it getting scratched or dropped last night.

Seriously, great job by Nick on dropping his hands on Snyder's shots, rolling through and keeping up the pace.

Hmm no that throw was not close to landing. Kyle Snyder is the best freestyle wrestler in the world but he’s not the best folksytle wrestler. He ran his mouth this week and looks like a chump now. World champ buckeye chump.

I have thought this for some time. The guy can't ride or turn which is 33% of the sport. He is the best in the world in a different style, but he is not the best in Folkstyle imo. He is exceptional in folkstyle, but I would take ZPain over Snyder all day every day.

This was just one battle that PSU won. I didn't care for what Snyder tweeted since PSU was going to be without Nolf, but I have no issue with Snyder. He's a class act and with how good he is he could act like a total douche, but he doesn't. We (PSU) still have to beat them at the NCAA's so I would lay off talking smack to him on twitter. You know karma and all.

No one has said anything out of line about Capt America nor did he say anything wrong. He's a grown man that obviously has earned to the right to speak his mind. It adds to the hype to have some chatter going on prematch, during a match and postmatch from all parties. I was kind of flattered to see how much it meant to the World Champion to beat PSU. Really, I'm more interested/disappointed in the behavior of Tom Ryan. That can't be fun to be one of his wrestlers. Hope recruits saw that and remember that could be you.:)

I don’t see Kyle’s pre-match comments as “trash talking.” There is a difference between “like to” and “will.”

I also thought that, in general, the tOSU wrestlers who lost last night showed good sportsmanship in defeat. I was particularly impressed with Bo Jordan.

There sure seem to be a lot of PSU fans on this board taking it personally. Also, I don't see how it backfired. He said they want to destroy PSU and they didn't succeed. He didn't say they would. Plus, they have 2 more chances to destroy PSU. I doubt either of those happen either, but that's just MHO. Sure are a lot of sensitive people on this board. He used a little smack talk, something a LOT of PSU fans on this board do every day.
I don't think it is taking it personally..he threw it out there and PSU fans are enjoying the opportunity to throw it back at him. If OSU won, he would be the one enjoying the last tweet...

Here's why it's silly to take offense, faux or otherwise, at Snyder's comments. He made it about himself and didn't disrespect the Penn State team or any of its wrestlers. It's fine to get your back up at the nonsense that spills from Richie Lewis's mouth but Snyder was just trying to galvanize his team. The fault line for me is disrespect and Snyder didn't cross it. It's a compliment in this context that Snyder "hates" Penn State. Plus, he helped hype the dual.

It didn't serve his team well in the end, which is a big credit to Penn State given that Ohio State was spotted an injured Jason Nolf. But you can't know what the result would've been if Snyder hadn't said a word.

Jason too.

As great as Snyder is on his feet, he doesn't take anybody feet to back. Jason does it almost routinely.

A kid talks a little smack hyping a big-time sporting event and people take it personally?

The kid is currently the face of USA wrestling and he has carried himself with a shyt load of class. So if Captain America talks some smack, which was nothing more than hyping the match, and attracts a few more observers to last night's match that is a really good thing, right.

Guys with national recognition, national followings and understand their place in the sport and step forward to promote our big events, they need applauded. Wrestling benefits when the David Taylors and the Kyle Snyders step into the spotlight and use their national (world) status as a promotional tool.

Just saying.

Using a travel excuse after a week to recover was/is pathetic.....superman won a NC with a broken rib and superman is not allowed any excuses.

I 100% support your sentiment. I feel a little gross now...

I just don't see many if any people on here taking it personally. A kid talked a little smack. I have no problem with his smack talking. Didn't think it was disrespectful, thought it helped add a bit of extra juice to the dual, especially after Nolf went down.

Now people are talking smack back, again (for the most part) not in a disrespectful or ignorant way. What good is smack talk if it's only one sided?

Yep and to be fair I'm not making fun of Snyder, more the excuses I've seen from tOSU supporters calling Nick a fatass, yerping about jet lag, etc.

Also, really hate the pin chain bs. Strutting around like a peacock after everyone just watched you dominate your opponent. You were the only guys on the mat, we all saw it, do you need additional recognition? Chances are you were supposed to win anyways.

We need more Quentin Wright, respect the man you've dominated types. Not brotastic douchebag, rub it in your face please look at me antics. This isn't WWF.

Edit: Now get off my lawn. .....bro.

Good thread. Just a moment in time though, and doesn't mean much. Anyone want to talk Iowa?

Completely in agreement.

But when you talk some smack and don't back it up, you have to expect some smack in return.....simple as that. I didn't take his smack talk personally...on the contrary, it was fantastic to hype up the match, and made our victory all that much sweeter.

No one I see taking anything personally. Big fan of Snyder but HE chose to talk smack on Twitter so now he has earned some blowback.

It's only fitting.

HR has a thread that Spencer should bump up to solidify his legacy and take the air out of PSU. Not show how either of those things happen by him bumping to Cory, and I think Kuhn can destroy Stickley.

Plus people say Cael will default to SL anyway, though the fact that he sent Kuhn out for his first bout in Blue and White against Nato seems to take that thought away too.

Good Guys win big!

I'm curious if he would have tweeted the same stuff had there been a 100% healthy Jason Nolf in the lineup? I strongly suspect he wouldn't have. He saw an opportunity to run his mouth believing that the team would have no trouble backing it up. One problem. He wrestles for OSU and the only back up is in the line waiting for the tanning booth. He tugged the Lion's Tail and now he has to deal with the consequences.

Wow... it's a really bad look trashing on Snyder. He is THE face of US wrestling right now. He takes out more Russians than the Wolverines. Give him the respect that he deserves. (That said, helluva job Nick!!!!)

I was in Las Vegas when Snyder won his first World Gold and all the Penn Staters I was with were rooting for our entire team no matter their college allegiance. But as an Ohio State Buckeye, if you go shooting off your mouth and dare wear that vile singlet in our house, you best bring the pain. Otherwise, stfu. Now, in the next World Championships...go Kyle Snyder and go Team USA!! Yes, that even means Gilman if he is on our team!!

I'm no Snyder apologist, but, in all fairness though, don't you think that part of that is that he's a fairly small heavyweight, all the while trying to keep down, let alone turn, guys who are likely many pounds heavier than him, some bodies being near 280 that he has to do this with?

Heh, no. I want to relive last night via the DVR at least a few more times.
Yeah, reliving it too...not dvr though, just by closing my eyes and going through each bout.

Just nothing to say about the Snyder thing...he'll be an NCAA Champ again, and likely World Champ several times over.

And Ian (post above), I like the way you think...let's start talking Iowa tomorrow.

Btw, we don't get Iowa next year, and the following year is at their place, so 3 years till we get them again here...unless Cael/Tom can work something out non-conference. This dual is a big deal.

Iowa? Roar, you day we are wrestling Iowa. Is that the bumblebee colors team from Ames, or the red and gold with the robes team from Iowa City?

I guess since Iowa still owes Penn State a home match, the determining factor will be whether or not Tommy Brands wants to wrestle Penn State or not.

I'd bet my last buck he does. Problem will always be whether it fits in both team's schedules. Much, much harder than people think.

Ok... help me out! I can find tweets (looking at Snyder’s) but not people’s responses to the tweets. I see the heart to like it, the reply or to -re-tweet it. But I can’t figure out how to read the thread of re-tweets... Yes, I am old :(

I have a quarter I am willing to wager that if Tom Brand's acknowledges a willingness to travel to State College they find a way to get this match scheduled. If Tom expresses a thought process that even hints that since the Hawks are traveling this year the Nits should travel next year the match will not be scheduled.

Hint? That can be stretched a long way. Brands knows a PSU/Iowa dual is good for the sport.

Except when returning the favor/hand PSU extended the year before when we rotated off each others conference schedule.
