Latest in Paterno v NCAA

Correction - Penn State was treated differently because they let me( Mark Emmert) treat them differently.

I knew this would come up. Let's remember the simple point that mark emmert is responsible for his actions. Yes, Penn State let him do it, but that doesn't justify it. emmert owns the fact that he circumvented ncaa guidelines and went out of his way to single out Penn State.

Of course, emmert's actions don't exonerate the actions of Penn State's "leadership". Both bear responsibility, but emmert was the decision maker and made a poor decision. He owns that.

I like that sentiment.......but I'd wager the mortgage money that no one's (relatively speaking) minds would change at all (whether one considers that important or not)

All it would convey to the public (or all the "public" would consume) is that a bunch of pretentious a-holes at the NCAA overstepped their bounds
Which does.....squat? (Anyone who even casually follows college sports already knows what a pack of bloviating hypocrites the NCAA is.......those who don't, they are no longer even tunes in - and haven't been for some time)

The entire "guilt/innocence" thing?
The NCAA is the wrong defendant, if one is trying to move THAT needle
The wild card there will be how much evidence will be provided to show that the NCAA and BOT were in cahoots and how much finger pointing at the BOT the NCAA is willing to do to save their own asses. None of these scumbags has a molecule of honor within them, and I can't see any of them willing to accept blame for themselves without dragging the rest of the den of thieves along with them.

True

But Louis will be the recipient of the finger-pointing (which will accomplish NADA)......not the BOT. We blew that chance

I don't know how that hasn't been obvious since 2012.

I really don't

Why do people think they paid him $8,000,000+?
To a guy who is positioned in such a way that "being the fall guy" does nothing - NOTHING - to hurt him (in fact, probably enhances his future income potential / employability)

Do folks actually think he was hired for his investigatory expertise?

"Some" do.

You raise an interesting point, and this sort of thing has already happened to an extent. In his deposition (Corman I believe) Emmert outed the Big Ten for having voted about dumping us, a fact that the B10 had managed to contain up until that time.

IIRC Emmert wasn't even being asked about the B10 but just happened to volunteer that information.

Very honorable indeed.

If only someone would come up with the angle that our BOT is not composed of selfless public servants and alumni who only want the best for their alma mater. Instead, we have corrupt politicians, an evil pharma king, the Cruella deVille of the banking world, and several greedy robber barons and investment brokers who care only about enriching their portfolios and advancing their careers at the expense of teenage scholar athletes.

The SKILLS reason Freeh was hired was to (1) make sure the email system was free from incriminating Executive BOT evidence - and then destroy anything that it found - AND (2) to hopefully uncover some emails that could implicate C/S/S and Paterno. When no real evidence was found to incriminate, create a "story" that could be state publicly that DID incriminate Paterno and C/S/S. Again, this was accomplished by professionally "altering" the "recovered" emails.

Historically, in the FBI, Freeh's technical experience was in large-scale data examination and information exposure. His $8.5M pay scale was based on the experience he had with technology and tools that would allowed him to "uncover" evidence "hidden" in the PSU IT systems. The issuing of a "report" and the gathering of 1st hand evidence via interviews was just the "face" of The Freeh Group's activities.

Today, we all know that his "interviews" were nothing but billing hours designed to incriminate...not uncover anything. Any "truth"- even the smallest grain of truth - in the Freeh "Investigation" was a "screw-up" made by this group of designated professional hitmen.

Freeh acted as a consultant in this assignment and consultants MANY TIMES are hired to do "dirty work" and then take the fall for any exposed failures. Freeh is NOT the problem. Afterall, this is now just "his opinion" (tell that to the media that continues to state the Freeh Report as "FACT"). The fact that Freeh was believed based on his work is the problem. The fact that the media and public are so easily deceived....THAT IS THE PROBLEM!!!
