Lets all help JB get his growing family to Rio!

That's surprising. One would think with the money made winning Olympic gold and the numerous endorsement deals that he'd be able to fund his family's way. Does he really not make much money? I would think he's doing pretty well for himself...

He made $250K on the last Olympics alone.

He'll get $500K if he wins gold this year.

Did he win his finals match today ? I missed it...I know he and Frank were the only 2 in the finals...Not bad at all for only 6 weight classes....

One thing I've noticed with the community at large (not saying anyone here is the reason for this comment), but the assumption that "oh, they'll get that covered" prevents people from contributing to things. "Oh, they have advertising, so I won't contribute" in cases of crowd-funding efforts.

I've personally donated to most of the Olympians' funds to get their families to Rio. We rely on a few to finance many when we, as a fanbase (all teams) could easily crowdfund this stuff in a matter of hours if we didn't expect others to pick up the tab.

I once had a conversation with Novogratz about funding our old Wrestling 411 project. I'm paraphrasing, but the context was something along the lines of: "I don't have a problem giving, but I expect our sport to step up some too. We can't say we need 250K and everyone expect me to give 240K of it."

JB could use all our support, too. Regardless of whether or not we presume "he's got it" -- maybe he's a guy who's been financially responsible and makes sure his money is growing vs. just having a big account and paying for everyone.

Nice post Jason. It really comes down to the circumstances of each individual case. Do I donate to the cancer treatment fund of a former PSU wrestler or do I support a fund that will send extended family members to Rio of a non PSU athlete. For many people, it is an either/or proposition as personal funds can't be given to all. Often times, I look at their stories and decide whether to donate. I hope everyone can attain their financial goals.

Well the Neb fans need to step up for him...It's on their boars too...LETS GET FRANK TO 100% FIRST AND SHOW RECRUITS THE SUPPORT PSU HAS GUYS !!!!

All these guys are Team USA. They aren't "Team Nebraska" or "Team Penn State" on the medals stand.
No kidding Jason. You missed my point entirely. If one only has a few dollars to give and to just one person, you're more likely to give it to someone who wrestled for your alma mater. Especially one fighting something far more important than a wrestling match. That's human nature. I gave to Frank. I gave to Dennis. I gave to Vollrath. I'm undecided on JB only because I've yet to understand whether it is his immediately family or extended family. The story behind the athlete makes a difference to me.

I'm pretty sure JB was responding to the spyker comment not yours.

Yes your right Jason. For that i just donated 100 bucks to JB.....GO USA. Really didn't mean it that way i was just trying to create motivation for the board to donate for Frank since he is getting so close..He does not have near the money as JB....I was very lucky to meet and talk to him out at Okla Nationals....

Not that you need to hear this Spyker, let alone from me, but your selfless action in donating to JB is very commendable...good stuff bro!

Okay. I don't see the Spyker comments. Everyone should have him on ignore.

The Rivals Ignore function is wac and this is a case in point.

I prefer the lower-case ignore function executed manually with my mouse's scroll wheel.
