Iowa dual thread - Jan 31

Any advice for a last minute parking emergency. It looks like no parking for miles.
Ah . . Riff around downtown. If you roll just a block or two past Beaver Canyon, there will be spots and more often than not … for free. Yeah … it’s a hike, but, you can more easily secure refreshments after enjoying the best dual of the year.

I hope the team isn't taking Iowa as lightly as most posters on here are.
The team and us fans have completely different focus points. I guarantee you each understands the need to maintain focus on the objective at hand, and the directive to have fun. The wrestlers objective at hand is to go score points, have fun and be grateful.
Our objective is to obnoxiously point out to GIA/HR/hawk fandom the difference in the amount of points scored, have fun doing so and to be grateful we can.

so your an iowa fan or you can't spell?

I like to hear Wille talk wrestling but hate how he cuts off the other guy every time he tries to talk!
Smalls and Justin talk over each other quite a bit. It does get annoying but a lot of it has to do with them being at different locations streaming. Same thing happens at my work with online meetings. I still love the wrestling talk from those guys and support them for what they do.

Fans are allowed to take teams lightly. I'm sure Cael will have the wrestlers fully prepared and focused. Regardless of whether this ends up a beatdown, it is still the most difficult match on the schedule. They'll be ready to rock and roll.

So Iowa still hasn't achieved "I didn't come to Penn State to beat "Iowa""?

Park in lock haven and drink a six pack of white claws on your hike down 80 to state college. That's what mcpats doing

A little something I did over across the interwebs on Intermat based on polling wrestling fans for their picks tonight.

An amuse-bouche before the main course tonight:

Wisdom Of The Crowds

If you believe in that sort of stuff, the final score prediction is......

Spread 'Em

On HVI I saw someone say they saw a betting line of Iowa +21.5. With our WOTC Predicted spread of 17.5, maybe it is time to take Iowa and the points (not gambling advice).

The distribution of differences looks like this:

Who You Calling a Lier?

Nobody. I said you were an outlier. Settle down.

As you can see there are a few outliers in the stack.

  • @Mr. PeanutButter wins the Hawkeyed Cockeyed Optimist Award for greatest Iowa fan. But he is a singular bird of that feather. I am frankly shocked and disappointed at the practicality of the rest of Hawkeye nation. Two thirds of PBJ sees Iowa taking 6 of 10. Nobody else could talk themselves into even 5 wins for Brands' Boys.
  • For goodness sake, even the greatest four three time champ in Hawk History (@Spencerlee) has the Nittany Lyings Lions winning by 14. For shame.
  • On the flip side, who woulda thunk it? We have a Wolverine in Lions' clothing. At 37-0, @nhs67 exposes the lie. He can claim to be a Michigan fan all he wants. We know better.
  • Only baccafarmer (HVI, no duh), Kale_yeah (guess where), @Pish (who hides as pish69 on HVI), and your faithful author could also see PSU hitting the triple decade.

What Abouts The Bouts?

But enough about us. What about the wrestlers?

Glad you asked.

  • Kerkvliet, Haines, and Bartlett are the only unanimous choices.
  • Iowa is favored in 3 matches with Ayala the biggest favorite, followed by Buchanon and Teemer.
  • Teemer v Kasak appears to be the most interesting match of the night at a near 50/50 split.
  • But I feel like Buchanon v Barr should be given the 22 points in 1:19 onslaught we witnessed last week.
  • But come on. Don't be stupid. It has to be the match that will end with a beheading, right? Two bold statements have been made. The first one turned out to be silly. But now we get a chance to see one of them actually backed up. Or sorta backed up. I do not expect an actual beheading.

He Shoots. He Scores.

From a scoring perspective things move around a bit.

  • While Mikey Caliendo got one vote of confidence (we see you @RawDog) the expectation is that Mesenbrink will do more damage than a Lion in an aviary.
  • And in a shocker, Beau "One Shot, Everyone Knows The Rules" Bartlett is the collective second favorite to take a second shot. Or maybe you guys just like him for the back points (aka near pinfall points)?
  • At the other end of the spectrum is the one, if we are really being honest, we are tuning in to see. Two Brands. Two Team Point Deductions. Too bad Vegas doesn't offer a prop bet.

I have told the wife every night this week what I am planning to do on Friday night. Come join me. I think I will crack open some spirits for the big event. But if clean living is your thing, then God Bless.

For those using ParkMobile a new email was sent out this morning.
Check it to avoid any parking fiascos.
Amazed the morning of the event a new message with instructions.

I just ended a chat with them and they are saying it's pay at the event

I got the email from Park Mobile but there didn't appear to be any changes or modifications to my parking. It appears that the lots around the BJC are all full and only prepaid guests will be able to park near the BJC.

One of the parking decks looked like it might be the only option at this point for those who don't already have parking prepaid.

Edit to add: Looks as though the only available parking (if not already purchased) will be in the EAST DECK - about a half mile away from the BJC

I think the change is they are opening the lots sooner. I think it was 5 before and now it is 8 am

Thanks 86 - I was concerned that they moved my parking location and apparently just overlooked the time change modification. Thanks again for the heads up.

I just figured I'd throw this out there about what weight to start at. I know we are most likely starting at 125, it's tradition. However, if I had the choice of where to start at, it would be 285. I can think of a ton of pros, and only 1 real con, besides the fact it goes against tradition.

Pros:
Kerk will start us off strong setting the tone for the entire match.
LL gets a little time to calm down.
We end the first half with SVN vs Parco a great first half main event.
Start off with Kasak vs Teemer, a great headliner start to the second half.
We wend with arguably the most anticipated match in Buchanan and Barr.
Co main even of the evening is CStar vs Arnold which is only hyped up because of Arnold's comments, or CStar vs Ferrari which is actually a match even Hawkeye fans are curious about to see where Ferrari is at.

Cons:
It gives Teemer and even more so Buchanan more time off the scale. I have no inside knowledge if they're cutting a lot of weight or not. But I had to atleast give 1 con.

Due to illness (not mine), I have an extra ticket available for tonight’s Iowa dual. Great seats, section 107 row A.

Only downside is you’d be sitting next to me. 🥴
As long as you're wearing the same outfit showcased in your avatar, it would be a pleasure!

(I won't actually be there, but have fun!)

If I could teleport to State College from San Diego I would gladly sit next to you. I will say it again, but you locals are blessed to be able to watch Penn State in person. The only drawback I see is potentially sitting next to a group of youngsters who want to yell "We Are" all meet. Thank you!

I can't help but wonder if Iowa will end up being Penn State's toughest opponent this year. I'll say no.
