It’s really interesting reading all the different perspectives on what Brands and/or Iowa need to do to improve. If it were possible, I’d like to see Askren take over the Iowa program and do things his way. Personally, I like the way Askren goes out and gives his opinions on different matters without being concerned about any potential fallout. I don’t always agree with what he says, but he’s always straightforward with his thoughts.
I suppose you can also say the same thing about Brands. The problem there is that Iowa seems to be stuck in a rut that they can’t climb out of. They still have one of the best college programs, but placing in the top 5 but not #1 is never going to be satisfactory after the Gable era.
I think it’s going to take a new approach to jog Iowa out of their current situation. Askren might be the best option to do it if he could be persuaded to take the job.
